This is the official build thread for whokrz :stopit: rear axle. I'm having the work done up here and he's picking it up in about a month. I was going to just send him the pics but I decided to make the build thread myself so I would have full control of the amount of  :stopit: involved.

The axle is a full float fj80 axle with E-locker. I'm going to have it centered to run two short side shafts. I will keep a ruff tally of the cost as I go along.

Cost
--------

Axle 550$
Having axle centered 150$  (This seems cheap to me so we'll see)
extra short side shaft 75$-100$

This will hopefully result in a full float, selectable locker, disk break (built in e-break) axle with a 9.5" ring gear for around 800$. Add to this the cost of whatever gearing he wants. It is 4.10 right now.

This is the spindle nut. There is only one and it is held in place by the two screws that thread into a plate behind. This is a much neater system than the front mini truck system as long as you don't strip the phillips screw heads. It would be smart to replace these with allen head screws at some point.

This is a pic. a front mini locking hub body on the fj80 hub. The bolt holes and dowel pins line up perfectly. This is important if we decide to use the longfield kit to add dowel additional pins.

Axle shafts are standard toyota 30 spline with no taper. Long side is about 36.5" and short side is about 29". With a starting WMS of 63.5" we will be taking out about 7.5" leaving about a 56" WMS. This will require spacers if he wants to match a mini front with spacers.

E-locker motor with cover removed.

Stop switch for E-locker ECU. Took this pic while trying to figure out how to opperate the locker manually. The locker must be in the closed or "locked" position to remove the third from the housing.

This is the locking collar. The collar seems to be much thicker than the fine spline sleeve I've seen on high pinion e-lockers.

Fj80 rear third next to a 8" high pinion e-locker.

Pic. of the empty housing and all the crap I have to cut off.

so everyone on the Marlin Board can get what I put on the Pirate board too....

I love the idea but the end WMS seems kinda small to me.

This won't fit everyone's application. It should come out almost exactly the width of a mini front end which is what he is running up front. The vehicle this is going in is a 2nd gen SASed with a mini front axle. He carries heavy loads with 37" tires and has already fried one bearing in his semi float rear. For him the main reason for the swap is the full floater. The selectable locker and disks are just gravy. He would have liked to go diamonds front and rear for a little more width but this is a more realistic solution cost wise. I think it won't cost much more for the whole axle build than just the arb for a diamond build.

This is the runner the axle will be going under. I think the width and height is about right. This will remain the same if he runs 1.5" spacers in the rear.

Oh thats sweet! I say you lengthen the short side to match the long side and make it hella wide!

Got the axle centered. Will try to get it thrown together to measure the WMS over the next couple weeks.
