DB kit+BJ spacer
« on: Oct 14, 2010, 09:16:36 PM »
will running ball joint spacers with my DB kit screw anything up?(DB kit already installed when i bout the pickup)  im thinkin bout puttin them in and relaxin the torsion bars to soften up the IFS and help it flex a bit better while keepin same amout of lift, along with running no swaybar.

Some have done it, but I think a 2" BL, or cut the fenders/adjust the firewall would be the better option, to clear larger tires.

What is the current set-up you have now, i.e. amount  of lift and tire size?

its an 87 pickup with a 4" bropbraket lift kit and a 3"body lift and i hope to cut the body lift down to 1"i want to run 35 im runnin 33 TSL'S right now but i want to soften up the front end up by puttin 2"ball joint spacers in and relaxing the torsion bars down about 1" because i want to stay at about 5"s suspention and 1"BL and and 63"chevys in the back. once i finish gathering all my SAS parts this IOFS crap will be gone for good but for now this is my plan for the mean time

I clear 35" Xterrains on 15x10's w/2.5" BS on my '91 w/just a 2" BL, BJ-spacers, some fender trimming, and firewall adjustment(i.e., beaten back to the body mount).  You should be able to clear 35's w/the 4" suspension lift and a 3" BL right now, even with flattening out the t-bars some, and save the expense of buying ball-joint spacers.  If you are wanting to reduce the BL some, just cut it down to 2 inches and you should still be able to clear 35's w/o modifying the fenders or the firewall.

How cranked up are the t-bars now?

I used to clear 37"s with a 4" suspension lift and 3" body lift.

Even if you cut down the BL, you would still be able to run 35"s

yes i can clear 35s right now, prolly 38s i know that. but what im gettin at is,  (until time for SAS) cut BL down to 1.5" put the 2"BJspacers in and relaxing the T-bars 1" thus gaining 1"out of a 2"spacer and gaining a softer front end, and caning my swaybar. thus i would have 5"of suspention, and do 63s in the back set up for 5"s over stock.

so... i would have a softer IFS for a lil better flex. an overall ride hight of 6.5"over stock and a "semi" flexy IFS. see what im gettin at? i just want to know if BJ spacers will work if there is a drop braket lift already installed?

i just want to make my IFS more flexy while keepin apx. the same ride hight im at now because there is no tellin how long its gonna take me to either save enough money or gather all the parts to SAS.

I say relax your TBs, keep your 3in BL, and run your 35s.... mess with cutting your BL when you SAS!

why spend $200 bucks on effin spacers, when your gonna SAS soon anyways.

I mentioned it somewhere else on the forum... I ran 33s on a stock 90 4runner w/o a swaybar and BFH'd the firewall...... no rubbing same with the 35s on my stock 87 i had w/o a sway bar. so dont waste your money dude.

I have done exactly what you want to do, but even more. Not only did I have the lift kit you speak of but also had the old Downey upper a-arm conversion. Actually built my own spacer out of billet before the current one was available. Was able to relax the torsion bars beyond what would be stock and that allowed the suspension to cycle very easily. The one thing to watch for is the inner axle can be easily pulled out of the housing so if you do this make sure that won't happen.
