Gen maintence ?
« on: Oct 05, 2010, 05:56:39 PM »
88 toyota manual tranny & TC

Ok I was doing some gen maintence checked the oil and all other fluids greased everything in the front end d-shafts and such Filled the trannie with 80/90 gear oil It was really low got like close to 2 1/2 to 3 quarts in till it just started to come out as i remember that was the correct way to fill it ??? Sound correct ??? when I went on to the TC I pulled the plug out of the side it seemed overfilled as it came spewing out like crazy

I didnt think [they] trannie & TC shared gear oil or last I remembered they didnt should I drain the TC it till it does as the tranny did or dont worry about ???

I know a newbie question But
Just dont want to over lube anything last thing I need is this thing to go down as its the only transpo i have at the moment

No they do share their fluids with each other all the time, and they do it in public too. Just gross I tell ya.

BTW i did search last night and didnt find what i was looking for
But today found the relpy in a totally different thread pertaining to what I asked

Chrstphrtptts Asked How do you check tranny and tcase levels?

superyota replied pull both the fill plugs out, and make sure you get a bit of
oil coming out of the fill hole.  should be "topped off"

That would have worked   or just saying no they dont share fluid and your thoughts were spot on do it as you first stated  :clap2:

Thanks superyota as rocksurfer is in a pirate kind of mood today  :lipsrsealed:

As I said i knew it was a newbie type question
and thanks for the witty comment rocksurfer I did kinda get a giggle out of it  :shhh:

Thanks marlin guys !!

Yeah you always want to fill both holes. :gap:

If I would have replied in a Pirate manner I would have told you to go F&*k yourself and use the search feature. Glad you got it figured out.

the transmission and tcase do NOT share oil.   you probably have a bad rear seal in the transmission
