Best way to remove this bearing
« on: Oct 04, 2010, 08:31:19 PM »
I want to clean up my cases really good before reassembly and I want to remove this bearing and then reinstall afterward. This is my first transfer case to have apart so bear with me.

What is the best way to remove this bearing without damaging it for reuse, or should I not reuse it? I am just going to scrub with the Purple Power stuff and a small brush. Maybe I shoud just leave it in??

Thanks
Jason

I don't think you're going to hurt it by cleaning it. I have soaked mine in solvent and orange cleaner before with no problems. Still running years later.

If you remove it, you might as well just put a new one in.

both work, I've never removed mine and I've set up at least 5 or 6 cases that way!

A brass drift or a puller with the teeth flipped out would do her just fine. Just make sure if you use the drift you don't let it bind to much, and mare the soft alum.
If you see it, its for sale.

Ok I'll just leave it and grease it up really good at reassembly.

I just didnt see a good way since the case is tabbed over the bearing from the inside making no place to put a socket, etc. to press or hammer point.
