There's two hoses that go into the valve cover (both same size diameter).

One is the PCV valve hose (rear), the other an intake for the crankcase (front next to front passenger side valve cover nut).

The front hose connects to valve cover and intake manifold.
Pull the hose off and put vacuum cap on manifold.    There should be some air flow into engine from the opening in the valve cover.

If you leave that front hose disconected, its going to allow DIRTY AIR, into the top end of your engine, and then allow all that extra air into the intake manifold causing him to run lean?(more then likely it will just piss off the computer)
Im sorry to say this, you might just have a really hi idle vacuum, I would assume there are things you can do to bring that  down which in turn would bring down your crank case vacuum.

For me, I would like to thank you for the reason that I never thought about my dipstick tube SUCKING stuff in. come the first I think I may be getting a new dipstick

you don't leave it disconnected, you hook it up where it should be. I don't have one of those years butt if you look on the hose dig. I'm sure you can find it on there. it after the A/F so you get clean air in the eng, not drity air.

page 2 was mine, some one ripped me off

its supposed to hook up to the manifold still,
behind the throttle body. so, it is going to be at full manifold vacuum I think

You disconnect the hose to isolate the problem....................

If you disconnect the hose the problem goes away. If you disconnect it and cap the valve cover it still does it. If I allow air into the crank case from anywhere it stops making the high pitched noise. I was looking at my buddys truck he has positive crank case pressure not negative vacuum like mine. I've tested
everything and can't figure out the source of the problem

mine has MINOR vacuum, just a  little bit. I wouldnt see how you could have pressure with the vacuum from the intake attached? is your timing right, is your idle correct, I think for most of  us we are just not used to our engine actually being sealed, BELEIVE IT OR NOT, my truck with 320k on it, there is a light his at idle, pull dipstick, it takes a while to build back up and whistle again, same thing with fill cab

timing is right. valves are adjusted right. idle is perfect. im about to ditch the pcv system.

Just put a breather on the valve cover to replace the front hose..............

Plug the manifold side of the hose.

you can put a small filter on one side of the valve cover. I do that with my weber carb on.
I would not unhook the pvc tho.

you in caly?

ok so after many hours of testing and compairing this is what i have come up with. the vacuum that i am having in the crank case is normal. ive compaired to two other trucks one with 200,000 on the motor and the other with a fresh rebuild. here is what the issue is. i bought a new dipstick from the dealer. the new dipstick seals up the motor so that the pcv is sucking the crank case down to manifold vacuum. i installed my dipstick in both of my buddys truck and they both do the same thing. crank case vacuum goes up to 12" and then is starts to squeel out of the front crack seal. so i guess what everyone needs to know is DO NOT buy a new dipstick. it will only cause issues.

or for a fully submergable engine, do a GOOD job installing the valve cover? like clean the heck out of it... and put some "the right stuff" on the half moon plugs

topkicktech...and anyone else that's had this issue.  It's NOT a dipstick issue.  I'm no tech master by any means.  I'm more of a mechanically inclined body man. I've had this trouble for some time, stumping many.  After the process of elimination, it came down to a simple gasket!!!  Everything was either new or restored when I put in a new engine.  The gasket between the plenum and the throttle body is missing a vacuum hole on the drivers side of the throttle body.  CRAZY SIMPLE FIX for what drove me (and many, many more) absolutely crazy!!!! I removed carefully removed gasket, punched a hole in it, reinstalled it, checked for leaks while checking issue...PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!  See you on the trails!!! "Sherman Tank"
