I believe it's more of a caliber issue than a manufacturer issue.  I think if you get a .308 lower you can go 243, 260, 7mm-08, 308 or 338 federal  :dunno:

the .308 ones are different. you cannot take a armalite ar10 lower and put a rock river upper on it. even some parts kits dont work as well .

Never heard that a certain lower could be illeagal. I have heard that there are a few bullet buttons that claim to be legal but are not!

I put one together myself, with help from the folks over at TDS. Cmmg lower, and a smorgasbord of companies for my upper. Its a 16" barrel with the 12" handguards.

As far as the Rock river arms .308 lower being illegal, check out www.calguns.net  They know their stuff when it comes to gun laws in CA.

Mines a Bushmaster lower with a DPMS 16 m4 profile. I also have a Model One Sales 20 inch 6.5 Grendel upper that I swap out. I highly recommend the 6.5 if you are gonna be shootin Coyotes. Its super accurate, flat shootin, and packs a whallop. I paid $500 for the 6.5.

Mine was $149 for the stripped lower, of course I had to pay the DROS fee which was $25 and a $5 dealer fee and sales tax.

Anyways.  You can get different brand lowers, that will be cheaper i paid a lot for mine.  It basically comes down to availability and what name/logo you want to look at on the side of it.  I just went with the Smith & Wesson one because it was available locally and they let me split the payments in half.   Anyways, i cant wait to get started building this thing, but it may be a little while

whats your plans on it? and my exp with it
stock?    play with other peoples and get a feel for what you want, I like the simple magpul
lpk?       there all about the same, go with a good brand just so you know the spring is of good quality.
tube buffer?   theres mil-spec and commercial, I like mil-spec because most major brands are. again go usa made
upper?   I have only had stags so no advise there, other than stags are good,
sights?   I like a good scope like leupold 223 tactical, what im running.
eotech's are awesome for up to 100 yards and then you can run a magnifier for longer ranges, but expensive as hel!

hope it helps, and let us know your plans

It's called a "California monster grip". Had to go through lots of loop holes to get it the way I wanted. But it's done. Had it for 5 years now. It never gets boring. :)

I also have a set screw in the stock, which technically makes it a "fixed stock".

What define a assault weapon by the government standards was, a gun that accepts hi cap mags, a pistol grip, folding collaspable stock, flash hider and a bayonet lug, you could have 2 of these and its not a assault weapon. So they ditched the stock, lug, and hider. Which made it legal during the ban, yet it was the same gun.

Put this together a little earlier today.  First build ever, wasn't too bad at all.  :)
Spent $136 on everything here minus the stripped lower, shipped to my door.  (lower parts kit, magpull stock/grip/trigger guard/and bullet button)

Ordered it from palmettostatearmory.com when it was on sale.  Took exactly two weeks to get it, which isn't too bad considering how cheap it was, IMO.
Now just waiting on the stag upper i bought.  :woohoo:
