Patriot 7-25-2010
« on: Jul 26, 2010, 07:18:22 AM »
Great run today!  I met up with CGuava (90 4Runner buggy), dcastell (85 4Runner on 47's), and Brian Ellinger in his Formula Toyota buggy (37" stickies).  We dropped in @ 9:45 and we're all out by 12:45.  That included a 20 minute break to work on dcastell's broken front hub & outer 35 spline stub (broke from his last BV Carnage trip on the exit and didn't know) and helping spot some guys in Sami's.

Dcastell broke right above the big drop for Bunker Hill.  Actually, it was the best place for him to break.  He was able to drive out Freedom in 3-wheel drive.  Christian's 4Runner did well.  All the time spent in the garage seemed to payoff for sure.  Brian's FToy made Patriot look easy.  Sweet little buggy for sure.

Indy sign

Haven't ben out since Nov. last year.  Felt good to finally get out.

Brian, Christian, and myself

Glad I got a rear bumper started.  I tested it a couple of times today.

Lined up at the exit.

Brian's slight flop

He was able to drive out backwards and ended up making the exit on the next attempt.

Little butt pucker moment for CGuava on the exit.  Throwing the driver's side wheelie was a nice touch

Getting the winch hooked up for a slight tug out.

I took more video than pics so I'll get the video edited and posted soon.

I was able to drive everything but the exit without a winch.  I was happy about making A-hole cleaner this time.  I couldn't drive the right side of Coffin Rock.  I tried it but almost but it on it's side.  Decided to back out and try the left line.  Took me a couple tries but I finally made it.

The section right before A-hole is TOUGH!!  I nailed it on my first try but I was worried about making it.

Redish shirt on the driver's side?  I didn't get a chance to talk to him but he did help me out with a couple of spots when I was hanging diffs.  Does he drive a TRD Tundra?  I saw it parked at the exit.

I worked on the rear bumper again last Saturday.  I actually had the rear pieces cut, notched, and tacked to the back of the bumper.  I'm too big of a perfectionist when it comes to simple stuff.  The gaps between the tubes were 1/4" off and didn't look right from the side of the rig (I needed to make the notch deeper to suck it closer to the main bumper tube).  I ended up cutting them off and didn't get a chance to grind them to fit.  I just ran Indy with the simple bumper.

It took two good hits.  I drug the rear reciever hitch down the first big 5 foot drop into Bunker Hill.  It scratched up the rear of the tube but held up fine.  The other hit was on outside bend.  Just a mild scrape with no damage or dents to the tube.  I don't think I'm going to get the rest of it done before the Jambo so you'll see the unfinished version.

That's an easy trail, a golf cart on 31s can walk it all day long.   :disturbed: :disturbed: :disturbed:

Nah, some of the drops are 5 feet or better and I was scared just walking a few sections. Mostly for rattlesnakes, but I'd still need a change of pants during/after trying this place.
