22r cam in 22re?
« on: Jul 19, 2010, 11:02:26 PM »
My 85 truck was originally a 22r, until about 4 years ago when i swapped out the harness and turned it into a 22re.  my question is when it was carburated, i bought a TRD(came in a crane cam box) cam, two steps above a stock cam.  I've noticed that the grinds on a 22r and 22re are different.  its been running with the cam and injected with no problems.  any advantage in putting a 22re cam in it, or should i just leave it alone?

So you have a TRD level 2 cam...

Leave it alone.

Only problem might be passing smog tests (not that they'd know it was a different cam).

You might want to adjust the airflow meter........

It passed smog with the cam in before so I don't think it's emissions much.  Adjusted the air flow meter right after I swapped it over to efi.  not sure if it helped much, but i backed it off three teeth.
