Marlin Crawler Fantasy Football 2010
« on: Jul 15, 2010, 12:54:48 PM »
Helllllllllo Football fans!! It is time to start preparing for the 2nd season of Marlin Crawler Fantasy Football!

Here is the link to the Marlin Crawler League: http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/leagueoffice?leagueId=824374

I am limiting the size of the league. Teams will be filled on a first-come first-serve basis

Last year was my first time both playing FF and also setting up a FF league. I learned a lot and am eager for the 2nd season to begin! (here is the thread from last season)

Here were the results from last year. We only had 6 teams.
At the end of the regular season, this is how the standing looked:
Team hobbs: 10-3 (86rustbucket)
Team Hilux: 8-5 (BigMike)
Team Locked: 6-7 (Steve_925)
Team FoxKillers: 6-7 (Toymin8r)
Team Jeep: 5-8
Team Brawlers: 4-9

The top 4 teams advanced to the playoffs. Here is how they played out:
First Round:
Locked defeated hobbs 247-192.5
Foxkillers defeated Hilux 242.5-237.5
Championship Round:
Locked defeated FoxKillers 266.5 to 246.5!! It was a really, really close match and was really exciting to watch it play out!

This season I am looking to have about 12 teams arranged in two different divisions: The Low Range Gears versus The Dual Case Adapters! In this configuration we will be able to have three playoff rounds including the championship round. I have grandfathered last season's players into the league already and will be contacting each player to see if they wish to stay or leave.

So if you are interested please follow these easy steps! Remember, spots are limited!
1) If you don't have an account already, please sign up with ESPN by clicking here. (it's FREE)
2) PM me your email and I will send you an invite to the Marlin Crawler league (assuming spots are still available)
3) You MUST accept the email invite in order to join the league
4) Start preparing for the upcoming draft

I have not set a date for the draft yet. It looks like we can delay the draft until Friday September 24 however there is no reason why we couldn't do it much sooner than that.

I have changed the rules from last season to make it more evenly competitive. Major changes are increased points from defense and special teams to help offset an overwhelmingly powerful offense. I have setup Waviers that are used to help control roster changes. Also, I am very open to rule changes before the season begins. I want this to be fair and fun for everyone!

So if you are interested in joining in on the fun, even if you've never played Fantasy Football before, post up and send me a Private Message!

One last thing... Last year was our first time doing this, and as a result it wasn't really organized much. But this year we hope to offer some sort of prize to the Championship winner! It won't be much really, but I'll try to get a Turtle Hoodie or something like that for the winner!

Looking forward to a fun season!!!
BigMike

Well at least your posting this in advance instead of 2 days before the season starts.    :therethere:

Sounds great guys! Thanks for confirming your interest for another season :beerchug: Yeah, last year it was a complete last minute decision and I am really glad you guys joined

Regarding the rules, I want to make sure everyone agrees on the rules before we do anything. I am glad to be getting this going this early in the year. It was actually my friend Clint, aka Team Jeep, who reminded me to start getting the league setup for the 2010 season. I encourage everyone to review the league rules before we get going with this. Remember I am still learning as I go with this, so if you've got some suggestions please bring them to the table and let's make sure it's as fair as possible to ensure everyone has a great time

As for the draft, I am down for pretty much any day. Anytime after 4pm on weekdays would be great for me.

I'm also surprised no one has replied. I know for sure we can get 12 teams signed up if I post it on our Facebook page, but I wanted to give the community a shot at the open spots first.

I am excited to see our Fresno State Bulldog tailback Ryan Matthews (left as a Junior) get signed by the Chargers for $25 mil. They say he is going to get 250 to 300 touches and I hope he does as well in the big leagues as he did playing for our city. He broke a bunch of our records and could have broken a lot more had he stayed on for his senior year.

What do you guys think about T.O. and Ocho Cinco playing on the same team? I think that if they can learn to play for the team then it's gonna be a great year for the Bengals. I like Palmer and the Bengals, I hope they do really well

Those three will never make it to the end of the season together, unless palmer takes charge and keeps those two in line.

Hey I may be interested in this but dont want to commit and then not be able to attend the draft and screw everyone up.

Do you have a set day in mind yet? Will it be a draft where we are together in a room somewhere, or over the internet? i am local but I assume over the net since everyone may not be local.

I have played football a few times (baseball about 10 years) but havent played in about 5-6 years.

Sounds like fun though.

Just curious, are you guys active in this (trades, etc.) or is this pretty much a draft, stick with what you have all season setup? I prefer an active league.

Hello dntsdad,

It would be great if you joined the league! Right now the draft date & time has not been set, and it is quite flexible. We will have 2 to 3 weeks of days to choose from, and once we choose a day, we can basically start the draft any time on that day. The 2010 seasons kicks-off Sept 9, so we'll have to do the draft before or on Sept 8. What we'll do is wait until we get 12 players committed, then do a vote for which day is the best. It will most likely take place during the last week of this month/1st wk of Sept, or early the 2nd wk of Sept.

All teams are able to preconfigure their draft order, that will be used in case that player isn't available for the draft. This happened last year to 1 team who couldn't attend the draft. He setup the players he "wanted" to get, and the system automatically did it's best at getting available players in the pre-configured draft order.

The ESPN website is down right now for nighttime maintenance, so I can't get all the details & settings right now, but the draft will take place in our league headquarters on the ESPN website. An hour before the draft begins, the system will randomly select the draft order. Then once the draft begins, each person will get a predetermined amount of time (I think I set it to 45 secs or so) to place each pick. After each person has chosen their 1st pick, it'll move to round 2, and so on, until everyone's roster has been filled.

As for activity, I think we are all pretty competitive and I know I am constantly checking Fantasy Football websites and watching games, trying to get as much of an edge over the next player as possible. Last year we allowed instant open trades with no limit, but this year I've made it more competitive by enabling Waivers, which benefits poorly performing teams to get access to the first trades after each week. Also, I have reduced the number of bench players to prevent teams from hogging all the good players (I was guilty of this last year).

So I know I will be very active and will be trying to trade and build the best team I can for each week. I think it's a lot of fun predicting how offenses will do against different defenses and man oh man did I ever get lucky with Miles Austin :yesnod: Can't wait to do it all again! :woohoo:

Also guys, I think Team names can be changed at any time, but let's finalize all team names before the draft date.

And speaking about the draft, maybe we should start thinking about the date. Let's start with the best day of the week for everyone. I am available to participate in the draft any day of the week, preferring weekday evenings. The only thing I've got scheduled is I won't be available Aug 27-29. What about you guys?

I let it auto draft my players and I didn't select anyone.  I ended up finishing 2nd.
There you go. So even if you can't make the draft, just remember that a LOT happens in the season and its just a matter of what goes in your favor as to how well you will do

Draft

So far evenings are the best for most people. I checked the draft settings, and we are able to hold the draft anytime between Today (Aug 12) and Sept 24th(!). The regular season begins Sept 9, but I guess because FF doesn't take up the entire season, I guess that's why it can be postponed that long :dunno:

At any rate, I think we will all agree to do the draft before the regular season begins, which means we have to do it on or before Sept 8. Given the size of our league, expect the draft to take up to 2 hrs. The draft is currently configured to allow 60 seconds for each team to make each draft pick. This can be shortened to 30 seconds or lengthened to 2 mins. So we could have a really quick, 30-sec draft pick intervals where you've got to think fast and have a game plan already down (which you should have anyway), or we could have it 2 mins for each pick so you have your time to do some research online and what-not before you place each pick. The downside is that the draft will take foooorrrr eeevvveeeerrrrr, so I say let's do either 30-sec or 60-sec picks. But I am very much open to suggestion!

Draft Schedule Info So Far:
Must take place sometime between Aug 12 and Sept 8.
Evenings are good for most people.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are no good for Steve_925 and myself.

Please post up if you are busy in the evenings on any other day of the week!

Hey guys,

I PMed EarlKann (Team Brawlers) to see if he was still in and unfortunately he will be too busy this fall to participate. So this means we have 3 slots open at the moment. So if you are thinking about joining, just do it! If you are a football fan, it's a lot of fun and the learning curve really isn't that bad! This is only my 2nd season playing FF!
