Motor Mounts Not Fitting.
« on: Apr 30, 2010, 06:49:12 AM »
last year i bought a 1985 ex-cab. it had a 22r in it. well it ended up having a bad carb, noisy timing chain and leaked from every possible place it could.. so i bought a donor 4-runner with a 22re, cleaned up that motor and sealed it up and put it in my truck.. when i pulled the 22r out it ended up being a 2wd motor(wrong oil pan). it had between 1/4-3/8" of spacers on each side between the frame and motor mount. when i went to put in the 22re it didnt fit either, so even with the spacers(plates cut in the shape of the bottom of the motor mount) the mounts still didnt fit, the motor and mounts are too narrow(about another 1/4" on each side) so i had to use longer bolts to 'pull' the mounts out to the frame... which led to them wearing out quickly. i dont remember which mounts i used the first time(2wd or ifs 4runner) i thought if i got the right ones they would fit.. they dont, i ordered new ones yesterday and have the same problem(with the spacers too). even tore one of the mounts stretching it out to the frame.

after that long explanation, what do u guys think? do i maybe have a bent frame? or are there different versions of the brackets that bolt to the block and i somehow used the wrong ones during my swap? can someone get me a frame width measurement at the motor mounts that i can check against mine?

I traded some 22r motor mounts with a friend and he said one didn't line up.  I think it comes down to the vintage, trying to put the proper year mounts back in the same application.  I've heard of others having similar issues as well.

ok, so i took some pictures, both sides, multiple angles. not the best but i think you can see what im working with. there are 2 spacers between the frame brackets and mounts on each side. the long bolts were used because that was the only way i could get a nut on the end to stretch the motor mount out so it would reach the frame.

i will clarify a few things. i did pull a junk motor out of my truck but i decoded the VIN and it was a factory 22re truck, it now has an 86 22re motor in it and i just installed new motor mounts that i ordered for a 1985 22re truck. so it is what it should be from the factory and is a long way from fitting correctly.
