Topic: what color to paint? (now with pics)

hey everyone, ima be painting my truck this weekend and wanted to know your opinion on what color i should paint it. the reason im painting it is because apparently the PO spraypainted it without clearcoat, and i tried waxing it, and, well lets just say it didnt go over well. now its all faded whiteish black shtuff.

yea thanks guys haha. the color i like best is either red, orange, or herculiner black, but thats a lot more expensive than just paint so i dont know what i wanna do yet.

are you just going to rattle can it?  if so buy a can of each red and orange. spray one can on each side try to cover as much as you can and see what goes better.

yea im gonna rattlecan it, but im going to take my time on it, so it looks ok. i was thinkin about doing that i dont know yet. thanks for the advice!

welcome thats what I usually do. Or just pick a color thats off the wall and just go with it. set up a paint booth in your garage and get a good resperator and take your time prepping and stuff good 6-8 hours in to it and you will have a decent looking paint job from a can.

like 2-3 coats of primer lightly each time and let dry for 30 min in between coats. Then let the last coat dry for a hour. then just 5-6 light coats of paint letting dry 30 min inbetween. then a final coat 45 min later. and then 2-3 coats of clear with 30 min in between and it will look pretty decent and not chip off when you wash it or shoot up some rocks on a road.

alright man thanks for the advice. i was thinkin the same process but wasnt sure how many coats to do, but now i know. i think i might go with orange. although that light baby blueish color. or the neonish green like macho taco here : http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=32251.810 . not sure yet

Paint stores often have blem colors, ordered and never picked up, or leftovers from a bigger batch sitting on a shelf at a discount.  Found a gallon of heavy metal flake rootbeer brown once and almost bought it to paint the bike.  You can get cheap automotive paint, and it'll look much better than rattle can, cover waaaay better, and even the cheap stuff will be more durable.  Plus you can get a catalyst to help harden the paint, and can get reducer in different heat levels for different temps, so if you're shooting in colder weather you can help it cure quicker, or if you're shooting in hot temps it'll help slow it down.

You should ask your neighbors what color they like because they are the ones that have to look at it.  This guy on my block has a pretty clean old Chevy van, had it on his driveway for 5 years, not a word from anyone.  He painted it green, not neon but like a British racing green, and within a week people complained to the HOA, called it an eye sore.

I agree with red or orange as well either will look good.

ok so i went to the hardware store today n got my paint, was gonna do orange but no luck  , so i went with red. got two coats of primer and 4 coats of red on there and tomorrow will be the clear coat. so far ive got 9 hours into this baby. pics will come tomorrow with the finished product

Looks really good man. You got snow still thats pretty intence. Hah I guess living on the oregon coast I'm not used to it. I used to live in southern oregon and we did not get much there either at the most 2 feet up in the mountains.
