Andy's '66 Mustang
« on: Mar 31, 2010, 03:00:48 PM »
Just bought this car from my grandpa (Andy).  It is a 1966 Ford Mustang, automatic transmission, straight 6.  Its pretty much bone stock.  He's owned it since 1972, its the car my mom drove to high school in.

I've wanted it for a long time, and he finally agreed to sell it to me :woohoo:

Plans right now are basic, clean up the interior, transmission needs a little work, new dash pad, new paint, and a sound system.  Going basic on the system, want to keep the dash completely stock, so I'm going to install an amp and couple speakers, with an input wire run up to the front, so I can hook up my ipod.

What a clean, straight old Mustang! Keeping it in the family, with all its history, is fantastic -- that makes it more than just another car. From what I hear, they are easy to work on and parts are readily available. Congrats!

Exactly what I'm thinking Stocker.  I'm hoping I can get my grandpa's name on the plate, we'll see.  Its the only car I've ever thought about personalizing the plates for.

The only rust on this this is the surface rust on the wheels, under the hub caps :gap:  It was garaged or well protected most of its life.

Undecided about the hitch, but the car is staying at the same height.  I've got 2 half sets of original hubcaps, I'm hoping to find at least the other half set of one of them.  At least for now, I want to keep it as original as possible.

Well, damn.

Lost the transmission when I was taking it in to town to register it today.

don't have time to pull it out and look today, but when I put it in gear, I get nothing, and its now leaking fluid.  Like I said, I haven't looked at it yet, but I've got a feeling a rebuild is in the cards.
