Need advice on top end rebuild (22R)
« on: Mar 04, 2010, 07:07:07 PM »
I just did a compression test and it was 160-155-155-160. Looking good there but my 22R head needs some work.  The exhaust manifold stud holes are stripped and the stock exhaust manifold is cracked so I figured I would just rebuild the whole top end.   I'm looking at getting the LC stage II
cam and there cam kit with all the springs, guides and retainers.

I don't think I will be porting the head and I don't want to swap my head for a 20R. I will also be using the stock intake and installing a Weber 38 and header.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the valves. Should I go oversize or just get the ss 45mm intake and ss 37mm exh ? They have  ss 45.5mm intake  and 37.5 exh.  :dunno: Would I get any more power or performance gain from the 45.5mm and the 37.5mm without porting?

what year 22R??  I wouldnt go with a 38 weber, get the 3236 weber almost as much air/fuel flow and much better on the mpg.

no the big valves wont help without porting,  and make sure and check piston to valve clearance if you get the .460 lift cam.

you don't have to go "nuts" with porting. I put in over sized ehxt. valves and "cleaned" up the ports. it depends on how much you understand where and why to remove metal.
I did not go with bigger intakes cuz..... well that's just me.

and X2 on the 32/36
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

leave the 22r stock its a economy motor , trust me, i messed with mine (port and polish) it just made it noisy as heck! drives the same as before.  i feel like ripping it out and getting a fresh unmolested motor because of the way it sounds
