Unhappy 22r
« on: Feb 26, 2010, 12:49:31 PM »
So the other day I was playing up in the snow.  I was going up this hill and I was gettin on it pretty good and all of the sudden my truck starts to sputter and dies out.  I didnt think it was a steep of enough hill flood the truck out but i backed down anyway.  I tried to start it on flat ground and it died again and again and again.  I found that If i got it started and held it so that the rpm was 3000 or more i could get the truck to move but it was still running rough.  I drove it off the trail like that.  It sounds like an old tractor just making a nasty putting sound.  and if the rpm was below 3000 it would just dies.  I checked the spark plugs and they was a nasty crusty tan color.  Thought that might have something to do with is so on the way home i stopped and picked new plugs and spark plug wires and it helped but it is still running like crap.  I checked both the coolent and oil and they were both normal.  I feel like the truck was running hotter than normal even though the temp guage didnt say the truck was hot.  I could smell the rubber mounts that hold up the egjaust melting a little bit.  To get the truck to move at all I have to start it and rev the piss out of it while fethering the clutch and it still dies most of the time.  Any Ideas???   :dunno:

I took a look and I can see fuel in the float bowl.  Shouldnt it run good on that fuel before it needs more.

cam jumped time?

dist. moved?

ign. useally craps out at high rpm if its weak.

same for a weak fuel flow.

I geass maybe if you sucked some junk into the main jet, butt it would still idle.

A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

Something stuck in the carbs needle valve

Pinch off the fuel line and run engine until it dies.     Then unpinch.

With the float dropped because of empty fuel bowl, you should be able to flush out what's stuck in the needle valve.

Thanks for the advise.  If its not raining out tmrw i think ill try and figure it out.  I was also thinking if i just drop a little gas in the carb it should run right for a second.  That would tell me if its in the carb or something else.

A stuck needle valve would make it run too rich, which is what your symptoms sound like.....

check the vacuum lines sounds like the fuel cut solenoid is going bad or loose.

I dont think that there is a fuel line cut solenoid on the 22r motor.

Took the carb apart today and put it back together.  Fixed the problem
