If you have a new ring and pinion gear set cryogenicly frozen and heat treated, is there a break-in period? :smack: ???

I'd like find the answer my vehicle is a trailer queen and does not see the smooth side of the road. I guess I see a lot more pre-running on dirt roads in my future.  :driving:

I dont see why there would be a brake in  at all. What are you going to brake in?  All i would do is run it and change the gear oil. repeat and be done with it. Gears have nothing to brake in. bearing dont need it, nor do the ring and pinion.

Gears have to break in.  It usually just means the first 500 miles take it easy and then change the diff fluid and break in is done.

Well i have put alot of gears in , and I still dont see a reason to "brake in" What is there to brake ? i guess pinion needs to set its grove in the ring gear? it will do this by driving it. Unload it off the trailer and drive it to the trail head then run it. I highly doubt that it will make any difference.Just change the gear oil  after your first run, then your second run. Then you should be good to go to change it as you normaly would.

Hey Greencorey-
The cryo will make the r/p more "durable" but they still need a break-in.....Now if you have them "REM treated" then you do not need a break-in. REM process makes the gears look like they have been chromed...race car drivers do this alot. http://www.procryo.com/RemGears.html

Im totally getting you to build my 2 ARB thirds!

Do you know of a good place to get my bearings cryoed?
If you see it, its for sale.

ZUK

Contact me via email when you want those ARB's set up .....Tina Long can have bearings and ring/pinions "cryo only" treated(no heat).

http://www.cryogenicsinternational.com/ is local to me and does a computer control cryo operation.

You know much more about gears then me. But how does this elemiate the need for a break in period? Isn't the break in period all about the gears setting and meshing the wear pattern in the metal?
If you see it, its for sale.

A reason I was so interested on the break-in is because I had welded my drain plugs shut front and rear!  :sheerterror: That was years before the low profile plugs. I am building a front with a drain plug.  :_oops:
