what is this on my rear end?
« on: Nov 27, 2004, 12:44:45 PM »
I have been trying to find out the purpose of the long skiny lever attached from the rear end housing to like a break valve?  I can't find this information anywhere.  Do I even need it?  Thanks

no, this is attached to a bracket on the left side of the housing and has a skiny long lever that goes up and into a brake valve of some sort located on the pass side frame right above the rear end.

ebrake cable and such run paralell along the top of the housing and into a bracket that has the long cable that runs to the front of the cab.

It is called an LSPV by Toyota (I think anyway). It is a proportioning valve for the brakes. It proportions brake to the rear by how much the rear of the truck raises during braking

Its the load sensing proportioning valve (LSPV) its a valve that adjusts the rear brakes depending on how much weight is in the back. The bigger the load the higher the arm will raise and apply more braking to the rear

edit: prismo beat me to it

yea you probably should keep it, just remember if you lift the truck 3 inches, you have to adjust it accordingly,

When I did my truck I just removed the  LSPV , and bolted xtended flexible line to the hard line that went to it. I wasnt sure if the brakes would be proportioned correctly front to rear but they are and works awesome.

Ok, I guess I did deserve this?????  And for the record, the Trailmaster 3" body lift kit comes with all the extended brackets to move stuff like my A_ _  problem 3" northward, along with bumper brackets, body skirts, break line brackets, ect...  No need to change anything.  Just bolt everything back on and there you have it!  Ha, I do have a big scar on my left cheek from a go-cart accident several years back.  Does that count for this new modified topic???  Thanks for all the help guysssssssssssssssss :toilet:
