I have an 02 tundra with the V8 and a340f auto tranny with an inchworm 2.28 reduction box and stock tundra electronic transfer case behind that.  I am looking to swap in a manual chain case from a tacoma or whatever they came in.  My question is what should I be looking for?  What year trucks do I need to look for and also what motor/tranny/model or what not.  And don't say buy a lefty or an atlas, I don't need one nor do I have money to throw away  .

I thought the 3.0's had gear drive case's.  Guess not or I dont know.

Any other suggestions?

22re cases are gear and passenger output
3.0 cases are chain and are passenger output
2.7 3.4 and 4.7 cases are chain and are driver output

I dont know if a 3.4 case is stong enough for a 4.7. Just curious but why are you swaping.

Mine is worn out.  I had to drive around in front wheel drive about 3 years ago for 3 months, so I have a feeling that the chain is stretched out.  It makes all sorts of noises when the hubs are locked in but not in 4wd and when it is locked in 4wd but the hubs are unlocked.  Just want to find info on this for if it does break, I will already know what to look for.  Plus I don't want the electronic crap anymore.
