When Jack bought it back in the early/mid '90's

After the first SAS documented online (estimated to be only the third SAS ever completed on a toy - there's a TON of history in this truck!)

After I finished the first rebuild - finished the 4.3 swap, crawlers, etc.

As it sits today, waiting patiently for someone to buy it from me....

That's roughly 10 years worth of building/rebuilding in this truck...  Only thing factory are cab/front clip, rear axle and frame.  Been through 4 engines, 3 transmissions, 4 tcase combinations....   And all of that in less than 10K miles....

I had dreamed about this truck since '84 when I first saw one.  But the reality doesn't live up to the dream, I guess.  That, and a lot of the sweat and tears that went into this truck are tied to a very special woman, that I love dearly, who is no longer in my life.  As much as this truck is a reminder of my father (he died before I bought it... he left me some $$ which was used to build it), it also reminds me of this woman.  Very bitter sweat - I love them both; my father and this woman.  Both are tied to the truck.  I guess that there's just too much emotion in this truck for me to keep it.

Maybe that makes no sense.  Doesn't have to, I guess.

If that was Jack Alfords (sp) rig, I remember when he was building that when I used to be on the Off-Road.com mailing list. Nice truck.

It is indeed Jack's truck!  I bought it from him in late '99 while he was about 1/2 complete with the 3.8 Buick V6 swap.  I finised putting that together, decided I HATED that engine, put the 4.3 in.  It's a beautiful truck, and I'm going to miss it... but it needs a new home...

I'm not "building" another truck, per se.  I already have a replacement that will get only a few minor changes and then will be left as-is.

so then what will you do for fun :dunno:

LOL!

I've owned Jack's truck for going on 5 years now.  I personally have put 3 engines, 3 tcase combinations (marlin, marlin ultimate, rebuilt ultimate), two trannies, two front bumpers, two winches, two home made crossmembers, two steering systems, three different front spring setups, two different front shock mounts, two sets of shocks, a completely new interior, two different dashes, etc..

Only thing I haven't changed is cab, front clip (other than grill), rear axle, tailgate.

I've put 3K miles on it in those 5 years.  Did I have fun?  Yes - absolutely.  But I should have been spending time doing things that were important - spending time with my wife, spending time with friends, WHEELING, etc.

I love this truck - i really do.  But even now, I want to change things - new engine, shorten the wheelbase, etc.  I think it's time to stop "building" and start "wheeling"...   That, and I've had to learn a hard lesson: what is really, really important in my life???

hint: it's not wrenching...  :D
