20r 22r hybrid help me out !!!!!
« on: Jan 03, 2010, 07:49:25 PM »
so ill start from the top of the intake     going under the intake       to the back of the watter pump

then going from the lower intake

to the fire wall uper hose    then lower hose goes to cab . from here it comes out of the cab to lower watter pump

IS this all correct ??? The truck over heats after a few mins .

Which head gasket did you use? 20r or 22r?  On my setup i ended up blowing the headgasket because some of the coolant passages were covered by the gasket. I think i originally used a 22r gasket and had to switch to a 20r gasket.  Sorry i dont remember for sure which one ended up being right.  Are all of your hoses getting warm? Before it overheats start grabbing all your hoses and find out which ones are warm, this may help you narrow down the problem.  And I cannot remember how the hoses go just by looking at the pics, I would need to have my old rig right in front of me to check it out

Well i have a 32/36 weber on it with a electric choke .. can i just cap the upper intake   port off as well as the lower intake and just run the hose from the heater core to the back of the watter pump??? or will this cause temp issues in the intake ???

if i remember right i still routed the coolant through the intake.  I think it helps it run better on start up in cold weather.  I dont really see a reason why you couldnt skip the intake though. I dont think coolant has to flow through it.

Your pictures look correct. Here's a pic of my mostly stock setup.

As for your overheating issue, what condition is the radiator in? Are the internal passages plugged up? New or used water pump?

My setup is (well, was) exactly like your pictures and description describe, so you've got it right.

A good overall engine picture of your setup might help.

The water choke on my setup hooked to the intake right near where the throttle linkage is, exactly like your first picture, and then it went straight to the carb, and then out the pass side of the carb, to under the intake (forward hose), and then to the back of the water pump via the metal tube.

I'd get you more pictures, but my truck isn't put together yet from some work I'm doing.  :hammerhead:
