newbie here from missouri

new to the board. But not new to Toyotas. Just bought an 86 4x4. not a bad deal for 500. Plus it's got a new head. I got to get her running first. Then it's SAS time. with a 4 link and Aerostar coils in the rear.

well, i'm pretty close to Iowa. I live about 30 miles north from St. Joseph. Just a little hickabilly town called Forest City.

Welcome to the list! I know the area as I used to live in St Joseph.

BTW, we have a local chapter of the TLCA called Tornado Alley Cruisers and we'd love to have some more mini truck wheelers.  :driving:  Also, Molle Toyota here in KC gives a significant discount on parts for our members.  8)

i'll keep that in mind bob . But i still have a ton of stuff to do to the truck before i consider it trail worthy. you ever go to Disney? seems that the last 3 or 4 times i've been out, that's where i went. Also, you have any idea of a place that will rebuild my fuel injectors in the KC area. St. Joseph is lame with that kinda stuff. And I think 250 for new ones is a bit steep. I need to keep the cost of this thing down as much as possible. Otherwise the wife will ground me from the toyota

I usually get to Disney a couple of times each year. Go to Tuttle Creek 2-3 times a year as well. Good wheeling there and a couple of hours closer.

I don't have any recommendations on a local place to rebuild injectors. A friend of mine that has a shop in Denver, sends them to a place that does good work. I think they're in CA. I'll get the name of the place if you're interested. Just curious, how do you know that they need to be rebuilt?

Tuttle Creek is a pretty good place too. My gang usually goes there a few times a year also. As for the injectors, you'd have to see the fine work the mechanic done to it before I bought the truck. something about a new tune up with 3 different plug wires makes me laugh. Really, I just figured that since the engine has 200K on it. It might be a good thing to have done.

By the way Bob, I like yer 83. The last one I had was an 83 also. But unfortunatly, someone decided they needed it more than I did and stole it. Oh well though. At least I never got a chance to bolt my hy-steer on. So a SAS for my new toy will be cheap to do.

I'm sure that having the injectors reworked by a competant shop would improve performance, but I would first try replacing the plug wires with OEM (if you haven't already) new plugs, distributor cap, rotor and run some good fuel system cleaner through it and then see how it runs.

Not that far into the TUNE UP phase of the project. I still have to yank out the engine. it's blown. Then switch all the new stuff that's on it over to another block. I just thought that since it was already all torn apart, I'd have them re-done. Hell I still have to decide if I want to fix the frame. Or, just cut it off and bend some tubing. But with the way steel prices are, I really doubt that it'll see that kind of stuff right now. Kinda sucks that I get all kinds of ideas when I'm on a pretty tight budget.

It was stolen July 3rd. From the lot at my brothers shop here in Forest city. The kid that stole it rolled it 3-4 times then tried to dump it into the Mo. river. but the tranny broke, so it didn't quite make it. Oh, well at least I found it and got what was left of it back. Now it's gonna be a good source of parts for my new toy. :gap:
