new 93 4runner drive train.
« on: Dec 01, 2009, 08:44:13 AM »
So I just bought a 1993 4runner for a family member with a 3.slow auto A340H with 210K. The engine "for what it is" sounds strong and runs fine. The transmission is well  :pokinit: It is in need if a rebuild/replacement. It is sluggish and shift poorly, and just sounds like crap.

I called some local transmission shops and they told me the factory A340H casting is weak and fails to secure the main bearing when rebuilt. So wanted 1700 for a newly cast and built transmission. WOW! is this true. Is this what i should expect to spend?? What other transmissions will work? Is the A340H a easy home rebuild? ive rebuilt a many engines/manuals/transfer cases but never an auto.

I know everyone will say 3.4 swap, but its not mine and im just not investing that much into it.
If you see it, its for sale.
