New Taco- tranny question
« on: Oct 30, 2009, 07:44:28 AM »
Well uncle Sam stationed me out here in Italy,I sold my truck like an idiot and now I drive a POS beater.  I'm deploying at the end of next year and want to buy a new loaded Tacoma when I get home.  I want the 4.0 with the 6-speed manual.  I was wondering if there are any problems with that tranny or motor I should know about and perhaps get the auto tranny instead.  I will probably end up sticking the TRD supercharger on it and it will be dragging dirtbikes and jet skis around a lot, just making sure I'm going to be spending $30K wisely.

Thanks guys.

i have not heard really any thing bad about the motor or tranny. If you are going to put a s/c on it i would go with the 6speed, you will only run into issues with the auto tranny. I know with the 3.4l and auto tranny the tranny was only built to withstand the hp the motor produced. not that any of that is much help to you but something to think about.

p.s. thank you for your service

there has been throw out bearing problems in 06+ (6sp) manual's. seems to be spotty though. I would suggest go search tacomaworld.com for new tacoma stuff and issues etc..., there is tons of info on there.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll go search over there.  The last new truck I bought was an 06 Dodge Ram, and I would not have bought it if I knew it had the tranny problems it did.  Two transmissions later it ran fine.  I'm just trying to make the right decisions this time.
