Charcoal canister question
« on: Nov 08, 2004, 06:19:28 PM »
its 22re engine.
Ok on the charcoal canister itself there is a hose that comes straight out of the bottom of the canister, some how it has become disconected at the opposite end.  i need to know where it goes so that i dont have a open hose hanging freely.  Also i did know if it was sapose to be like that, acting as some kind of breather. thanks for any help :crossed:

That's the way it's supposed to be.....you're ok.
It seems like mine used to be tucked inside the frame rail somewhere.

I have a 95 4runner and the charcoal canister is leaking large amounts of gas from the evaporator hose. Is the problem with the charcoal canister and if it is can i get one from a salvage yard and does it have to be from a 95 4runner or is there another make and model that shares the same style charcoal canister. Thanks

Any 3rd gen canister will be fine.  Actually I think all EFI canisters are the same... But I could be wrong..

If you have gas coming out of your C.C. you have a problem other then the C.C. Like maybe the vent and return line from the gas tank have been swapped.

Is that the only problem it could be? How could that have happened? Maybe someone who was doing some work on the vehicle didn't put it back together right. How long would it take being like that to start leaking gas so freely? I had it for 3 months before I noticed it and I probably put around 5000 miles on it in those 3 months.

I accidently swapped the charcoal canister line with the fuel return line on my '872wd when I rebuilt the motor.  I found out about it one day when it got real hot and the gas just started pouring out of the canister.  Eazy fix though....
