Blew my head gasket oh yay!!!
« on: Oct 22, 2009, 01:12:16 AM »
Went out and did a little night wheelin tonight. Well my waterpump went out and I guess my temp guage is broken and it was reading 1/2 the whole time.Long dumb story about wheelin ect... I'll save you all the bs I got towed home. After about 2 hours being mad and warming up I went out and started it up, there is no moving of fuild at all which brings me to the water pump being broken and my stupid factory temp guage. There is white smoke comingout of the tailpipe to so ect... water looked milky oil looks ok but the oil fill cap looked a little milky. So now brings me to my questions.

I know to use a toyota factory headgasket. Now what does every one recomend for the timing chain, water pump, oil pump and upper end gaskets? I'm going to get metal timing chain guides but what brand? So what I'm asking is should I go all toyota parts and what guides or just toyota h/g and then what other brand for the others? thanks for any input.

You can get all the other parts from enginebuilder.com, they're good stuff.  Oh, and your factory temp gauge isn't stupid or broken.  If there's no coolant or water running past the sensor, what's there to read?  I had the same thing happen to me, blew out as I got on the freeway, only rose a tiny bit, then I drove 15 minutes to work and didn't know anything was wrong till I hit the long hill and it started pinging like mad.  Let it cool off and it just cranked over like there were no spark plugs in it.

You'll probably want to do a few oil changes fairly close together to clear out all the water, and you can run a little atf through the first time to help get the water out.  And for sure have the head checked for warpage, if it got that hot it's doubtfully straight.

Cool thanks I'll check them out. I gotta wait for a while as the old ladys car needed to get the trans rebuilt last week and that wiped out all the funds at the monent. Should be going again by fall its a project/dd but now I guess I'll be walkin or gettin rides for a while. Thanks for the heads up on the temp guage, I'll probably be gettin a aftermarket soon to. Hopefully my head is straight if not then I'm leaning twards a 2.7 swap or a fully built 22re.

Nice bear by the way to.
Thanks,
 Wil
