the 7m is badass- but if your going to go throiugh all the work, the 2j is a far better swap- might as well do it right the first time eh?

it just like swapping in a new 22re when you have a 3rz laying around- doesnt make any sense

that is true i am just thinking about power it only stay mainly off road and i can find a 7mgte for cheaper then the 2jz from what i have researched.

I've actually been researching this as well. It's the reason I joined this site. I hoping to pickup an 88 runner in a week or so. I already have most everything needed for the swap except for motor mounts. My daily is a 2jzgte single turbo 91 Cressida. I hate lowered cars now. HATE THEM!!   :maddest:

First, here's a good place for all things JZGTE... driftmotion.com ...they carry the 1jz bellhousing.

Second, here are other links that I've found useful for this swap...

Third, you need to swap at least the input shaft off an R154 transmission. There's something about the bolt pattern on the R150 that you may need to swap the front half of the R154 casing onto the 4wd tranny. Sorry for this sketchy info, I'm in a rush this morning but my internet addiction compells me to poop on the forum.

Fourth, I hope we can do this swap around the same time so we can share info and once and for all make THE definitive How-to for JZ 4WD swaps.

...waiting for funds on January 4th to come in... hoping no one buys the 88 V6 5spd 4runner.

ive talked to marlin a bit about this

what you need to do is gather a 1j bell house, 1j flywheel.-im sure you knew this
then source a r150 from a 95.5-2004 4wd tacoma, 4runner,tundra, t100= depending on what side you need your tcase output.

you can adapt a left to right side easily with an adapter, but for simplicities sake- you need a 95.5-97 t100 v6 trans. this has the correct input length, t case output. im still looking but finances have slowed the project till tax season

buying and adapting a later model R150 sound like it may be enough trouble with shaft lengths and shift on the fly :pokinit: to out weigh the trouble of hybriding R154 bits to the existing tranny.

I see you are rear/mid sump. I thought front sump was the easier way to go... are you originally a 22r or V6 4runner... heard that the 22r crossmember allows for better fitment of the sump.

it was a v6-search crawlerdans build up- there ya go.whole build up to date

i converted from front to rear sump- mandatory for a solid axle equiped truck as mine is, the steering would have made sweet love to the pan with out modification.

im using a 2jz-twin turbo hybrid from an aristo. when i bought it i sold off the factory twins and manifold(PO wanted them) and switched to a single :D

Your build thread is sick man. I love how much forward the front wheels sit... kinda like an H1 hummer.

I don't feel comfortable saying this but you have (at least) a 2jzge motor, not 2jzgte. If anything, may be a 2jzge head on a 2Jzgte block. I'm no guru, but for fact JZGTE motors have individual coil packs per a cylinder. You' ve got a dizzy hangin off your head. I tried to use GE valve covers for my GTE when they crackt ...no go.

This aint a bad thing conisdering the GT35 ...the GE will have high compression and a cam to suit torque. It's just not a 2jzgte. It;s a 2jzge NA/T...

Further more GTE uses a MAP sensor ...you;ve got a MAF. With that mentioned it;s gonna have issues with the blow off valve unless you use a recirculating valve.

There's other things to mention but Im on 1 bottle of sake and 1 bottle of pino grissio..

thanks- im aware of what in working with-the PO took a ge block- ge head, and added the twins- ect in that- with low compression pistons from a supra turbo.he sourced all the parts from an aristo- and had then installed into a gs300 here. i bought all but the twins off him, as i wanted to go single.

i just rebuilt the motor, and the bottom end was correct, and in great shape, the ge head meshes well with the block. and might i add-the bottoms on these motors are STOUT!

im not sure how the maf will work-i may remove it entirely and run standalone, not sure yet- it will be low boost, probably only 7-9.

now- all this being stated- i personally saw th gs this was in, and it ran well, and was pretty quick considering it had an auto and weighed as much as a school bus. all in all it will be at minimum twice the power of that crappy v6 i pulled, and about a billion times more reliable

its cool. You should be good for more boost if you used the GTE pistons. My friend had to learn the hard way on his NA-t supra.

The MAF is probably gonna be a pain if you don't use a recirculating type BOV.

The 2JZGE, like I was saying only this time sober, is actually a good thing for your setup. Longer intake runners, cam, and small turbo for low-mid range power.

I personally have had annoying experiences with my stand alone. I had a Apexi PowerFC (bling bling). Didn't like it much. I went back to stock ecu with a apexi SAFCII. Much happier with a computer that can run limp mode as if there's nothing wrong at all. Anyway, just to share experiences. You didn't seem to happy about mega squirt either.

..will be keeping an eye on your thread. I think it's about time for me to pick Marlin's brain as well.

my buddy has an 85 supra built for the track... with a 7MGTE and he runs a MegaSquirt standalone... that car is a FREAKIN ROCKET!
He ran a 12.81 on a stock 7MGTE and just adjusting the settings in the computer for fuel ratio, etc... he runs low 11s now.

I say go with a Megasquirt Standalone Dan.

you know- i thought about this- my last rally car (subaru with turbo ej22) ran a maf with an atmospheric BOV, 30psi, and the stock engine management...never an issue, and ran 12.38 1/4s

there is a guy in europe doing an identicle swap as me, with a maf, stock ecu and management, running 12psi on a GE motor, with atmospheric BOV, no issues.

so am i missing something. please keep in mind, im not building a race car (right now), all i want this thing to do is make power reliable and move this thing down the road nicely

Another great resource for this is Jack with Jeepeaters. I have a 88 4 runner that I wanted to to this swap with. He has done the swap before and got it to pass smog in ca. He also recommends using a t100 4x4 as a donor because they came with Iforce v8.
