Body Moulding, Window Trim & Badges, etc....
« on: Oct 07, 2009, 04:48:07 PM »
How are they attached?

The only one I'm sure of is the front window trim.

I want to take them off for painting without destroying them.

Specifically:

The body trim on the gutter around the front door window.

The plastic vent cover behind the front side window.

The Toyota 4wd badge on the rear pillar.

Anybody have pictures of the pieces off so I can see how they're attached?

Thanks
Ed

well i know the toyota 4wd badge just pops into two little holes in the cab. just slide a skinny screwdriver under it and pop it off!

I am not sure but I believe the chrome molding is glued on, so you might want to tape it.

The plastic vent slides onto two or 3 tabs, you should be able to remove it by pushing in and up on it.

The moulding on my 86 pu was pressed on. Free one end and pull slowly. Vent covers come off by doing the ol in and up pressure move, badges are held on by two pins in plastic retainers. Good luck.  8)

the gutter mouding is pressed on, the black trim just to the rear of the doors are held on with 3 body clips. if you go to kragen in the screws and clips section you should be able to find ford plastic retainers that work better than factory ones to put them back on.

be carefull taking them off as the plastic the clips push into do crack if you just yank them off.  get some auto body pry tools . ir just a flat tip and some patience
the toy 4x4 embelem is put on with one time use clips (or the heat and years cause them to breAK off)
i just used 3m winshiled adhesive to put it back.
