So its that time of year when the Salmon and steelhead make the fall run at the Trinity River  So last Friday i called in sick to work  so i could get some last minute things done, so i could make the 1000 mile yearly round trip up north to the the Trinity.  I did not have to much to do but go to the DMV (renew my licences and registration on my car), get new tiers for the car, go shoppin for food, and change the oil on my car.  Kinda of a long list of things to do but i managed to get it all done by 2:30, so i loaded all my camping gear and my dog into the car and i was ready to make the six and a half hour drive   But i could not go fishing with out a quick stop by The BassPro Shop :) A new rod, real and some fresh line and i was on the way again. I arrived to the camp ground at 11:30 and went to bed so i could get a fresh start in the morning. Being that close to the river i only got about two hours of sleep, i could not stop thinking about the first hole i was going to fish, the first cast i was going to make and that first fish i was going to catch.  The next day i was up and fishing by 7:00 and the first hole i went to was just the tip of the ice burg of how good the fishing was going to be.  Saturday i landed 7 steelhead and lost two. Sunday was a little better landing 8 steelhead and one salmon. And only fishing for two hours fishing on Monday i reeled in 4 steelhead. Not bad for a quick fishing trip.

So here are a few pics of some of the fish i caught

all the fish were about 24 inches except one big guy that was 30 inches and 9 pounds

I see a panther martin spinner, but what else did you use, how'd you fish it and in what type of water?  I've only caught one steelhead, and it was totally by accident.  I was actually sorta road hunting for deer coming from hayfork over to 299, came out by the big bar, saw a nice hole just after getting on the highway and decided to try for salmon for a few.  Had a kastmaster and was pitching it into the hole with no luck, moved just down from the hole where the water looked to be about several feet deep all the way across the river.  I was trying to bring it just in front of some of the bigger rocks I could see out there then BAM! I had a fish.  Turned out to be a nice steelhead and I was going to return it to the river, but as soon as I dipped it back in it began to bleed profusely from the gills, so mom and dad ended up with it
