rear brakes are not pulling their own weight, literaly
« on: Sep 29, 2009, 10:29:23 PM »
i have new brakes all around maybe 8k miles on them, already my front rotors seem to be shimmying when i slow on the freeway,
to me it makes sense to think the rears are not stopping right.  i have a 3 inch spring in the front and stock in the back.  im gonna install a 2.5 inch lift shackle's so unless i do something it only gonna get worse. what is the best way to adjust this problem with a lift?

bend the rod?  measured before and after and bend to match?

drop the unit on the frame?  on the axle, the heim joint lookin thing, turn it from 9 o'clock to 12  and/ or lengthen it 2.5 inches?

i did try the search but i could not find anything usefull, what is the most popular way?

Add a strip of metal to extend the lower bracket mount of the rod.

Start with the same amount as your lift in the rear.

Then you can adjust until you get it just right.........

Standard response:  Just tie up the rod.

Yes, but it harder to figure out what you've actually changed.....  (compared to a bracket that adds inches)

what does it even do?  i bypassed mine, my buddy did his on his dd without a problem, he says its for carrying heavy loads so when your back is squtted down the rear brake clamps harder.    If your not haulin loads of sand in your truck ditch it

by ditching it you would have full pressure to the rear brakes as is the case when your hualing a load and the ass is squatted down it sends full pressure

i still have the 79 brakes on the rear of my truck and with my LSPV removed years ago i can lock up all 4 of my 35's

tie it up, very easy

OH and adjust your brakes so the drums just barely slide on

So how do you do it? do you have to disconnect lines and plug them or what? I have the same issue.
