i have a 85 runner now that does great but we decided we would rather trailer it than drive to the trail.
if i am going to trailer it why not just get a buggy? well for now the runner will do but eventually i think i want to get a buggy.

question: what is the best buggy for the money?
oh and its got to fit 2 adults and 2 kids

i am thinking a used Ftoy is prob the best buggy for the money but any one else have other ideas?

thanks
got another 85 runner. build coming soon!!

bigarms23

the best route is a 4 seat ftoy cause i assume the kid will go to down the road

depends on what you like and what you want. i am a fan of a crawler resbling a truck, thats why i made a truggy. if it where me why not just build off your runner.

the truggys look awsome but not so much for the "4ruggys". they seem to look too choped up to me. my truck works great for now but a buggy looks like so much fun. wheel and have a good time with out having to watch the sheet metal so much. i am not the type to just hammer a rig just to do it but to be able to relax that much more while wheeling would be great.
are there any 4 seater buggies that are similar price to the ftoy?

i am just thinking ahead one day. its all just a big maybe

thanks

yeah thats the Ftoy chassis. it just welds to pretty much any yota frame. start with the basic yota crawler and upgrade as time gos by. fits 2 adults and 2 kids comfortably.
if i do a buggy i want coils up front and inboarded leafs in the rear with some hi dollar shocks. no big.
again i am just looking in to the far future.

i would build a buggy there a blast. i built this about a year ago and when i get buckled in its hard to get me out
never once have i ever wanted to see the reduce speed ahead sign so bad

axled89

sick!!.   were do you take that thing.
i love oregon wheelin.

you name it is titled as a 63 beetle so i drive it everywhere (it does wheelies!). mostly power lines trails though witch kinda suxs. the closest place to wheel is about 2 hours away and i don't get much free time to play any more. its crazy on hill climbs there's not much it cant go up. its ran hills that 4 wheelers and dirt bikes with a running start cant make it up

you should put that pic in the action shot section.

I'm ordering an f-toy as we speak. Gonna put it on my 85 runner frame. I like the buggy idea cause you have way better vision when wheelin. Especially when going up and over obsticles. You can also lower the center of gravity ALOT by relocating the spring mounts inside the framerails and higher instead of them hanging under the frame or notched into it

like this

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SICK!!!!!!!!
that would be nice but the goal is still best bang for buck and i am guessing that is maybe 2x as much as a ftoy but that thing is freaking sick. shoot me some prices for that beast. i love it

Just turn your 4runner in to a buggy.  You are almost there. Think Armor and make it to wear you can run a soft top.  some gears and lockers and pipe there you go.

i still have alot or research and budgeting to do but what i have in mind is:
yota frame
3rz maybe turbo. need to do more research
w56 or turbo trans if i can find one for a ok deal
duals with 2.8 & 4.7 twin sticks
for axles:
#1 609 up front
#2 fzj 80 in a diamond housing
#3 big mike fj80/mini hybrid in a diamond housing
for the rear:
taco/ tundra
maybe but prob not a ford 9"
for tires i am thinking 38"s to 40"s
stickies on bead locks
not sure about steering?? full hydro or hydro assist??
for suspension:
i would like links and coils up front and inboarded alcans with bbc's in the rear.
i am not sure for sure what chassis i want. prob a ftoy for the price and availability. but i am not a fan of the look or style if i can find another shop to build a better looking and equal in quality chassis for a near price i would prefer to go that rout.
the chassis needs to be able to seat 2 adults and 2 kids. storage space for enough gear to last a few days.
i think thats about it for now

After watching and riding in this rig while it romped all over the Crushers in TSF, I'd love to have a buggy of some sort.

even though im a huge fan of truggys, with the toy drivetrain build as light as possible, since ive had trouble with the front axle anyways on 38s im totally leaning towards a scratch built buggy on air shocks

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
air vs. coils
pros and cons??

if money allows i would like to go ford 9"s maybe f/r. never have to 2nd guess strength.

this could work too

dan this is a super tight buggy but not much of a family buggy. not enough space for all the fam.... gear for 4 people over a few days

it seems to me the yota frame platform would work best for me.
thanks though

Definately. Also maybe even the new F9 housing from currie enterprises. We have one in our jeepspeed and they are bad a$$. Strongest 9 I ever seen, we totally abuse it and never an issue. Or even a diamond housing you can order one with a 9inch center or toyota center
