Ted Kennedy gone at 77!!

My wife and I were just talking about the Kennedy clan and the black cloud that has always loomed over the Kennedy clan.  And the news just broke in on how Ted had just passed on.  How sad, he was a fighter in the senate, he held the second longest senate seat.

I don't really care either way.  Just, I think we should have 1 term limits for all members of government at all levels.  The problem is that we get old guys for decades in the same position and that leads to problems.  We need young, fresh blood to keep things moving.

Ditto  :biggthumpup:  He shoulda been publically flogged looooong ago, then left in a ditch to die.  Preferably a well lit ditch with a locked viewing rail so people could watch him slowly die, but nobody could get past the gates to help.  Not that anybody with a soul would want to help  :gap:

I'm all for 2 term limits, and I fully agree they should be unpaid positions.  Sadly, the IQ test thing would doubtfully work.  Most those people probably have fairly decent IQ's, but their problems usually are they have agendas and decide to do things which are completely wrong, but they know full well what they're doing.  Power corrupts some, but too many of them are corrupt before getting that high up.

The senator / representitive wouldn't know what they're doing.........


They'd have their strings pulled from the staff that continously sets up replacement senators/representitives.   

And since they're not elected, they'd be worse than the current senators/representitives................

I agree, to a point. If the elected Representatives can't figure the system out...that signals to me the system needs to be changed. I would like to see a rule that would prohibit any bill from being longer than the US Constitution (the document, not the ship)...and that everything be written in plain English, not legalese.

So we get rid of their staff too.  Back in the beginnings of this country, quite a few of our founding fathers really had no idea what they were doing.  They were simply very bright people, with the ability to look at and analyze problems, some of them with previous knowledge of law, but all with a patriots heart, and a dedication to founding a new country on good, solid principles.  they didn't have personal vendettas they wanted to see achieved, they wanted to make the nation stronger as a whole. 

Back then the roles were viewed much more as a public service.  They didn't get free transportation, hell, they had to ride horseback, or in a carriage, or even walk!  They didn't get fancy cars and private jets.  If they were paid, it was a stipend (similar to jury duty).
