light cracking on t-case housing
« on: Aug 10, 2009, 10:29:04 AM »
I noticed some light cracking on the front housing of my Toyota turbo t-case near the input shaft. The cracks do not go through and no leaking is evident. Is this common and should I look at replacing the front portion of the housing soon? Thanks.

Micah

Are you sure it's not just casting flash?

Drill a hole at either end of the crack and weld it
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

It's not casting flash. They are very small cracks that are mainly around the input shaft. When ever I get back to Oklahoma I'll take a picture of it.

Both of those can be repaired by drilling a hole at the end and welding it.

I bet you are seeing casting flash looks kinda like a shattered glass pattern.

8D3TOY,

It does look similar to shattered glass.

Mini,

The cracking is around the input shaft area of the housing.

I think you are OK my T-case is covered with it just keep an eye on it and see if more develops or if the existing gets worse.  When you can post up a pic and I am sure you will get a for sure answer as to what it is.

Thanks. I'll be pulling it out of storage on the 19th so I'll take pictures then.
