What do do you think of them and are they worth the cost? Trail wise I would think a few sticks would be better and at home you could get a better welder for the same cost.  :twocents:

i have one and it is bad arse.  plus you can use it as a spool gun to weld aluminum or stainless at home if you wanted to.  the cool thing about a ready welder is you can take it to the broken vehicle.  with a premier you have to jockey your rig up to the broken rig.  they are kinda spendy, but handy if you need it

He has fixed a few rigs with it

Well it takes at least 2 batterys to stick weld. And its pretty shade tree. If you can afford a ready welder, go for it. A safe and sound repair is the best way to get home.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

i think they are cool, they are bank, but then you can't run your 220v machine on the side of the road either

i have one and i love it...  i have honestly only used it about 10-15 times now but it is more than worth the money..  this is the best onboard welder for the buck and i cant think of anything else that comes close to it..  i  have only used it for trail fixes a couple of times but have used it for aluminum a little and the built in gas solenoid makes this not too bad of an aluminum welder..

i have run both flux core and shielded wire with gas through this gun and played with different voltages from 6 volts to 24 volts and it works pretty good with the lower voltages but works terrific with either 12 volts or 24 volts...   with flux core you can easily weld up to half inch steel and with a few passes i have done 3/4 inch as well with good results...

i dont think i would consider using this as a shop welder though...  it is a bit bulky and not super friendly on the body with long welding times... it can get a bit heavy being that the spool is in the gun itself..

if you have the money than get one.... just dont show it off at too many events or else you will end up being quite a busy man repairing other peoples junk.. :disturbed:
the never ending build...

there is a guy in sac area that will rewire a yota alt for a ob welder.

Dingman.

[threadjack]

For those of you that have had the alternators re wrapped to put out more amps, what does it usually cost?  and are you happy with it?

[/threadjack]

I would love to get a welder for the trail, because it would be a good piece to have, I don't know how often i would use it but for those of us who don't want to spend that much money, i cannot see the reason why to not carry a few welding rods and a set of jumper cables.   At least it may be an option to get you home.  Regardless, i think it would be a good idea to have one or the other.

I have $1000.00 in a Mobi-Arc 200x. I've had it in & out of my vehicle 4 times. So far it has been nothing but a headache. I will say the guys at Mobi-Arc have always called right back & have been real helpful , no complaints about their customer service. I just wish I didn't need them so often.

I have approx. $600.00 in a Mech Man 200 amp Alternator which has performed flawlessly.

If I could do it all over again I would probably just go with the Ready Welder.

You can find Ready Welder II's on Ebay resonably priced sometimes.   I bought mine that way last week for $180.   The case looked a little beat up from being in a truck but I don't think the welder had ever actually been used.  All the parts looked brand new.   :beerchug:

Was that Willy's?

No, the auction ended on the one I bought 3 days later his did.   He got $350 for his.  :yikes:   The only difference is that the one I bought didn't actually say it was new. :dunno:
