had a wack at port and polish today
« on: Jun 13, 2009, 09:37:08 PM »
take a look, this is my first time, i have seen enough to know what works.  i hope i did ok

i took down the ridges in the chamer and gave it a nice polish
ground down the back sides of the valve seats (took off quite a bit) to get em matched up to the port
then took alittle off both runners and polished only the exhaust

yah no kidding those valve seats are crap!!    this motor only had 20 to 30k on it  that is why im not to worried on doing this myself, if i mess up, o well i got my good toyota head.
i still need to surface the head and do 3 angle the valve seats.
i hope the chinese seats dont pit that fast again!   only thing i can think of is my bro inlaw did not take care of this motor. but i cannot see that any poor maintanence would cause this .

your better off leaving it rough doing a gasket match you want air turbulence for fuel atomization but it looks great

i hope to one day!

the exhaust runner looks rough but i sanded it down with 220 and then 400 grit followed by a buffing wheel, damn carbon!    i wonder how long before it starts building up, if i use injector cleaner or seafoam regularly

i was also gonna champfer all the oil passages in the head including the rocker tubes,  htere are lines connecting the dots, i wonder if it will make a difference if i ran a sharp blade down this line to make it deeper, or run a drill bit like a scraper , so it oils better?

he is not going to have any atomization problems polishing the exaust ports..    :hammer:   And there is a ton a person can do to the intake with out losing any atomization..  Cleaning up castings, cleaning up the seat areas and so on..

yes, you want to scrape those out so the oil spreads across the rocker     i used the blade of a pocket knife
