I have a possible line on a second or third gen 4wd wrecked pickup with a good diesel drivetrain. Are these sought after or cool? I'm thinking of using it for trading fodder. Anyone know what trans/t-cases they use?

2L or 2LT, and it'll be a 2nd gen unless it's been imported.

If it's a 3rd gen it'll likely have a 3L, or if you're super lucky a 1kzte.  So what do you wanna trade me for?  :disturbed:

I assume that means they're cool? Don't know much about it other than a friend of mine's buddy let his son borrow it and he rolled it. Out of the ones mentioned are any of them turds? It could be imported cause it's in Montana so no smog and close to Canada.I could possibly get the whole truck. I'll try to get more info next week.

A 1kzte can go for around $3500 or so and are pretty balsy for a stock small diesel, and there's plenty of potential for more.  A 2L/2LT/2LTE is not the most powerful or most dependable toyota diesel engine, but parts are much more plentiful for them and they could last for quite a while, you just never know.  I wouldn't turn down a cheap one, but I wouldn't search one out either.

If it's a 3rd gen it'll probably have at least a 3L, which is a better option than the 2L from what I've read, or like I said, it could have the 1kzte.  You just need to go check it out and let us know!

I hope it's a 1kzte. Sounds like a gem. Are they kinda rare? Do they work with 4 cyl. trannys?

I believe the tranny they came with was actually designated as an r151, but I also think they had chain driven cases.  Either way, according to jarco (a huge toyota diesel importer) you can get a bell to bolt them to a 4cylinder tranny.

Yes.  Do some research on toyotadieselmadness.com

That's gonna be a 2L or 2LT then kiyul.  Not the most desirable, but I wouldn't turn one down either!

These are hard to find and it seems like alot of people still want them. As mentioned previously toyotadieselmadness.com / toyotadiesel.com is the place to connect to tons of these folks.
