Cleaning knuckle balls???

So, what is the best way to clean off surface rust on the knuckle balls?  Light emery cloth?  Wire brush?  The surface rust is coming off the axle housing with wire brush pretty easy.  And I'm wondering what is best for the knuckle ball.

i used 600grit wet/dry sandpaper and a brass wirebrush. If you are really in the $$ have it blasted with glass. If it is really bad use a courser grit. The ball is a hard steel and will take alot. i would stay away fron anything eletric/neumatic.

Mine turned out nice and clean... Make sure you WD40em!!!

Sweet!  That what I wanted to know.  I just couldn't remember how resilient the metal in the ball was.

I just stare down the rust and it disappears.

Small brass wire cup brush on the end on an electric drill. I don't get into it very hard, as it doesn't take much to remove the rust.
