Ordered 30 spline Longfields yesterday and got my FROR crossmember snd skidplate in finally. Had to wait three weeks for it but its here and I'm excited. I'll be installing it on thursday and will hopefully have the truck driving by the end of the night. Should be getting 5.29 gears and install kit from Marlin this week. Hopin to have the front axle done this weekend but it all depends on whether or not I have all the parts and if I have time to get it finished. I'll be updateing again later this week with pics.

It's been almost two months since my last post and I thought I'd have some pics up but there's been a lot going on. Here's some pics of whats been done recently.

Got the FROR crossmember and skidplate installed.

Regeared a high pinion 3rd with 5.29 Yukon gears and an Aussie locker.

30 spline Longfields getting installed.

My hub gear on the drivers side came loose from the spring and locked the axle while going 35mph. Luckily nothing broke but I left a nice 50 skidmark in the street. Here it is getting pushed back to the shop (which you can see in the background).

Next on the agenda is to build a square front driveline. Hoping to have that done in the next couple weeks but we'll see how busy I get. I also should be getting my wheels in this week, finally (I'll never buy from 4wheelparts again). A friend of mine made some weld-on beadlocks with a CNC machine from his work awhile ago. He no longer has any use for them so he's giving them to me. 8) Then I can finally be driving the truck on the 36x13.5 bias Iroks. My goal is to take the truck out for its first wheelin trip before the end of may. It will be one year exactly that I've been workin on the truck to have it 4wheel worthy.  :circle: Still more mods to come....

My last post showed a pic of my truck getting pushed by a forklift because of what I though was something wrong with the hub gear. Well this last week I finally found out the reason as to why my front end got locked up.

This is what a toasted pinion bearing looks like. Ouch!

I ended up having to tear apart the front end again (I'm practically an expert at it now, lol.) and then rebuild the 3rd member...again. Wasted time and money but learned some valuable lessons in the process.

Built myself a square driveline for the front. It'll get some flat black painted on it sometime within the next few days.

After fixing the 3rd and putting the front axle back together, I was finally able to take the truck out for a couple test runs. I didn't do anything extreme, just wanted to make sure everything was working properly and wanted to see how well it can climb steep hills. I wasn't able to get any pics but the experience was pretty amazing. The suspension flexes awesomely and the dual cases worked flawlessly!! I'm definitely gonna go run some trails this weekend!

have fun  :driving:  that sucks that it took so long. well at least you know that everything is good shape and has quality parts
make sure to take some wheeling picks

HDcruiser

Looking good bro  bummer about your 3rd...  have fun this weekend!

yeah this build has been a year in the making. almost exactly actually. mainly because i've tackled a lot of projects all at once. blowing the 3rd up did suck cause i would have had a chance to take advantage of the nice weather last weekend. if the weather was decent this weekend, i had thought about going to browns camp but its been raining practically non stop for the last few days. i'm too new to crawling to want to go on any rock trails when its wet so i'm gonna run some non-rock trails out in the TSF that i know. come to think of it, its been so long since i've been on those trails i might have a heck of a time tryin to find them, lol.

pretty bummed. found out that i had other family obligations that i needed to attend to so no wheelin this weekend. looks like i'm waiting another week yet again. :shake_head:
i'll use that time to fix a few things here and there such as my battery tray. its slightly non existent. bungee cords are doin the trick for now. :gap: i'll see what i can fab up during the week.
oh, almost forgot to mention, i took advantage of the roll cage weekly special and ordered one. hopefully within the next month i'll have that installed. once thats done my next project to focus on is propane conversion. 8)

Did a little wheelin this weekend. Unfortunately I didnt bring a real camera or camcorder but we used my cell phone to get some footage. The truck took everything very nicely. I ran a few trails that I was familiar with. Didn't take on any rocks.

I ended up making it up this hill but the carb is crap and it kept dying on me. Propane conversion is one of my next projects.

This video doesn't show how rutted or how steep this hill was. I was a little leary about doing it but made it up on my first try. Underestimated my truck I guess, lol.

Happy Birthday to myself, I bought beadlocks! :circle: I finally got the right wheels from 4wheel Parts last thursday. It took them 4 months to send them. I'm seriously never gonna do business with them again. Worst customer service I have ever endured. :tantrum: Anyway, they came powder coated so I had to use a wire wheel on the outer rim to get it prepped for welding on the beadlock rings. I probably won't get a chance to work on anything until at least friday so I won't have any pics or updates until after that. I still have a Marlin internal cage waiting to be welded in and a complete propane kit ready to be plumbed in. I seriously hate not having time to work on the truck.
However, I'm debating on going up to Brown's Camp this weekend since the weatherman says its supposed to be nice out....

Damn you beat the sh*t out of that thing. Nice build
You'll never take me alive

Well its been just about 7 months since my last update on this build. After finally getting my wheels and welding up the beadlocks, I ran into a few snags and the wheels are still not finished.

Here's a teaser pic of what they'll look like. 36x13.5x15 bias Iroks with custom made beadlocks. Beadlocks will get painted black.

While in the process of hitting a few snags with the beadlocks, I came across an offer I couldn't refuse. A friend of mine gave me a great deal on his 2002 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200C. Its my first bike and I love it. So since I live in the rainy willamette valley of Oregon, I spent all my free time taking advantage of the nice weather during the summer and early fall riding as much as possible. Basically, I neglected my poor Toyota. Feel free to :slap: anytime...or just be jealous that I have a Harley and you don't. :wag: Haha, jk.

So now the weather is crappy, I'm not as busy as I was, and the truck has been taken back to the shop for more work. I decided to put the beadlocks on hold for now and start jumping on the propane conversion. I've had all the parts for about a year now but just been too busy to work on it. So no more slacking and time to put it together.

First thing I did was take out the carb and fuel lines. But I figured while I was already taking that out, I might as well take out all the emissions crap too.

That sure is a lot of useless garbage.

I pulled the tank and remaining fuel lines yesterday. Also made a couple block off plates where the egr valve and fuel pump were. Next up is to build a bracket for the regulator. After that, pretty much just plumb the system and see if it runs. :crossed:

Worked a few more days during the week on the propane conversion and ended up finishing it on saturday. Runs pretty good. Still need to set the timing and adjust the mixture. Despite that, it still runs smoother than before. I'm loving it so far. Unfortunately, won't be testing it out on any trails quite yet. The truck is going back in the shop for the next project...internal roll cage.

Here's a vid of the truck running on propane. Don't mind the exhaust leak, lol.

great job on the build....I don't know if I missed it but who makes the twin stick setup you're using?

toyotaraskmt

Started working on the roll cage this weekend. Its the internal cage that Marlin sells that I got awhile back. I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to get the plates bolted to the floor. Body mounts are just too much in the way. I can't even get the nuts threaded. Anyone have any suggestions?

Here's a couple pics of what I've done so far.

toyotaraskmt

Been working on the truck as much as I can lately. Basically, any free time I have is put towards truck projects. Ended up adding a couple small projects in the meantime. Rather than bore you with the details I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Propane all hooked up and adjusted. Works awesome.

Marlin internal roll cage finished. I added another tube for the rear hoop for extra strength and stability.

Replaced the bench seat with some buckets that came from an '86 pickup. I'll paint them later to hide the stains.

A friend of mine motivated me to work on the beadlocks so they are all mounted on now. They'll be powdercoated at a later time.

With 2.5" backspaced wheels, the tires stick way out but it makes the truck look mean.

This is how she looks for now. I'll probably do bumpers someday but I actually wanna wheel the thing. Lol.
