Feeler: 88' 4runner
« on: May 21, 2009, 09:56:00 PM »
dont have a licence for 6 months so i want to see if its worth selling my runner. i bought this truck with a seized motor so i bought a new 22re and had it put in. odometer reads 303,xxx miles heres a list of some of the major things i have done with miles on them and price.

new 22re installed                           $2500      13,000 miles

New W56 trans flushed and inspected $650       12,000 miles

new clutch installed                         $130        1,000 miles

flywheel resurfaced                          $40          1,000 miles

runner has 32x11.5xR15 Big-O Pathmax tires on aluminum wheels. tri-y header, 2 1/4 inch exhuast, 40 series flowmaster muffler installed new at the same time as the clutch, brand new autolite alternator, new wires. im in the process of installing V6 4.56:1 thirds, has A/C but needs to be charged. interior is not great. no radio. new scion seats must be installed

I will add more as i think of it. this runner is very reliable. almost a new motor. heres some pics.  price is $3500 OBO. maybe partial trade. Guns?
 thanks, Mike

That's a lot of $$$ spent on repairs that will hard to get back on a resale.  I'd just keep it if I were you.

There is a similarly clean 4runner (except it doesn't have a recently rebuilt drivetrain) on PBB right now for $1700.  That's admittedly a really good deal, but I'd expect something like yours to go between $2500-$3000

The truck is worth about $3500 or so minus the tires, interior, and A/C(this is a huge negative in CA or anyplace with hot summers).  That sucks at least $1000 off the price, because it's a headache to deal with for most buyers who don't want a project.  Then there's the haggling and economy.

$2000 in the shape it's in is what it would end up selling for, most likely. Maybe $2500 if you find the right person who has to have the truck. Maybe.  If you fix the A/C, put a cheap MP3 radio in it, and get ti completed(plus fix the interior up), closer to $3-3.5K and an easy sell(people want completed trucks 100X more than projects)

Translation - $500 in parts and a lot of elbow grease will net you a huge amount more profit.

i agree with plekto. i was trying to sell my 4runner for 3500, and i hardly had anyone interested, it was almost sold but then it developed a tps problem so i had to take it off the market. like i said, hardly anyone interested and mine is nicer than this one. we arnt assholes we are just trying to give advice.
