what do you recomend 488s or 529s I all redy have 5.29s but am thinking about 4.88s I whant my rig to be a little more free way frendly i think   :dunno: my brother (84runner) has 36s with 5.29s i am going to have at least 38s but for DD im going to have 35 inch pro comps. its going under an 85 runner. so let me know wich is better and why

4.88 gears bring you back to the correct RPM for 33" tires. 5.29 gears do the same for 35" tires. If you run 4.88 gears with 35" tires you wil find you use 5th gear less as it is often a little bit too low. It's also harder on the 5th gear, and that is the weakest gear in the transmission.

YotaYota

im runnin 5.71's w/ 37's, its at 3000 rpms at 70mph, so w/ 5.29's w/ 35's it should be about the same

Stay with your 5.29's, you'll be sorry if you go to the 88's with that tire combo.

Hyena

I got a friend running brand new 4.88's and 37's and his truck goes as fast or faster the mine with 5.29's and 35's.  So i don't know.

Why dont you just send me your 5.29's and Ill send you the 3.90's that I have that are pushing 38's :smack:  (Im NOT joking!)  Id just leave the 5.29's as you already own them and they are a very nice match for 35's.

:smack: :ack: :screwy: 4.88's stronger=yes, 5.29's faster=no, quicker yes not faster. The 88's would give you more top speed, but like I said before, if you want to go fast, buy an MR2, if you want a 4 wheel drive, with 35+" tires go 29's.

BigMike

I just wish they made a 4.56:1 for the high pinion and V6 housing, then I would run 4.56 high pinion front and 4.56 V6 rear................ :rivers:

4.11 to 4.88.... we need an "in between" ratio for all applications!
