I have a small standard screwdriver that I use to tap into the slot of the cones to spread them open enough to get them to release off the studs, works every time.  never had to beat on a hub body or stud

I have always hit next to the washer, not the stud.  I dont see hitting the stud.  I have never had a problem. So School me.  I would hit the stud to break a rust problem, but for a cone washer issue    :headscratch:  I advise, once they are off, put some sorta lube on them, before you re-install.  :twocents:

X2 This way works every time.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

I just heat the whole knuckle till it's glows red and hit it with a BFH.
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

I pretty much use a combination of all those (except heat....which I had to use once when there was water frozen inside my steering arm hole)

anti-seize (ALWAYS)
brass punch
BFH
small screwdriver in the slot

works every time....i could do it in my sleep (time for longs) :gap:
