Mr. Gasket P/N 722g or 722. I use copper high heat silicone on my gaskets. Lightly snug the nuts down finger tight, let it sit a couple hours & then torque in 3 steps from the center out. The first time I start it, I let it warm up fully, then retorque. This seems to work w/my NWOR header that was blowing out gaskets once every other month. I also double nutted the studs as the nuts seemed to loosen from the heating/cooling cycle.

I had truble with my NWOR header burning gaskets. butt I tole the header off and got a long flat draw file ,pulled the studs and filded the side of the head flat. now I just need to helacoil two last holes and I'll be good once again!

P.S. the NWOR header is not made for a gasket. and thats just how I have it now.
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

I did the same thing to my head & the header. Still leaked until I used the above method. I also fabbed up a support to the bell housing. Mine would never seal without a gasket, even when it was new.

:shocking: Believe it or not, I use a stocker TOYOTA gasket on my Downey headers. I was blowing through a Downey gasket every other week. I tried that super-cool LC gasket too, and it failed way fast, but, when it was delivered it was bent with a nice crease in it and that probabaly didn't help too much.  After a hundred bucks in gaskets, my mechanic ended up throwing a stocker in when i got my engine rebuilt...I guess Morris at Inland Trucks is the man because I've had no leaks from my stocker for over a year of hard wheeling.  I guess it's the way the gasket is installed, which I thought is pretty straight forward, but with no leaks so far, somethings gotta be with with the way it goes in.  As far as the slip joint in the j-tube, I wrap it in header wrap, when it fails, I rewrap it and everything sounds great again.  My $0.02.
