This spring I got my spare head redone with new valve seals, guides, and valve job.  While I was at it I put in a more aggressive cam too.  This winter I plan to rebuild the bottom end of my engine to replace my other one.  I don't want to do anything fancy with it, just what needs to be done.  I plan to put in a new oil pump, and obviously bearings and rings.  Anybody know where I can get a relatively inexpensive rebuild kit?  The bottom end I am rebuilding has a 135K on it.  I'm planning to overbore it just cause and put stock style pistons in, where would be a good source for parts like this?  I shouldn't have to do anything to the crank should I?  Now onto the next part of this question.  When I did my head this spring I also put in a new timing chain and sprockets, by the time I do my engine swapping it might have 10-15K on it, is it ok to reuse it?  If the rebuild kit I buy comes with a timing set I am going to put it in no questions asked.  Any advice on rebuilding a 22RE would be helpful.  This will be my first complete rebuild too.

I wouldn't buy anything internal for an engine from anyone other than Ted Stanwood in Scapoose Oregon.  I have bought tons from him and have always been satisfied!!  His ebay name is enginebldr or something like that.  Just type 22r timing kit or 22r rebuild to search for him.  If he doesn't have it on line, call him.  This guy has everything.  Tell him Bil Wiester in Moses Lake sent ya and he'll cut you a good deal.   :twocents:

Thanks for the link to his site.  I've seen the name on ebay but didn't know of his reputation.  I found a kit in NWOR for around $400, which seemed reasonable until I saw the engnbldr stuff.  Can't beat that deal with a stick! :_order:(or mallet)  I already have a cam whivch I am quite happy with.  It is suposedly the most aggressive I can go before other valve train modifications are needed.  It is a  Comp Cams 87-123-4.

I've built 2 engines using a kit from john's foriegn engine's http://www.22re.com/ .  Their kit is all OEM japanese parts. As for reusing your old timing chain, DON'T DO IT! The timing chain is the weakest link on the 22R engines. There's no way I would assemble a new engine with a used timing chain. It might be a good idea to have your crankshaft checked before you order your kit, because you'll have to know what size bearings to order. I made this mistake and had to buy another set of bearings. Other advice : be sure to put new wrist pins & wrist pin bushings , they are almost always wore and you could have a rattle if you don't. JFE's kit comes with new ones. Good luck!
