i just bought a 1991 2nd gen runner it is a 2wd/auto and im converting it to a 4x4/5 speed, you guys got any tips, how to's, things things like that to make things easyer for me?
do i have to change out the break pedel? (cause it is different from the 5 speed doner truck im using)
how hard is it to by pass the thing that makes the truck not start unless it is in park?

wow, yes you have to change out the pedal assembly, start reading factory service manuals for both configurations..... you've got a good bit of work ahead of you..... to the point, of it would be easier to also SAS the truck at this time than try to make the 2wd ifs into a 4wd ifs

ya i thought i would have to change out every thing, and ya im going to SAS at the same time im going to use the axles, x-over, and springs off of my 85, and i have a rolled 95 that is the doner for the 5-speed and clutch stuff.

Any idea how to bypass the starter shut off switch thing from the auto so i can start the thing when im done?

its pretty easy as i have heard

marlin said he has heard that you just put a resistor into the mix and it tricks it.... i dont see that being an issue much.....

To get the truck to start you just have to jump the two large wires (black on my 91) in the harness for the transmission.  The harness is located on the passenger side of the truck, the plug you want to jump is attached to the park/neutral switch, it is a square box with the shift linkage attached to it. The wire for the reverse lights is also in that harness (on my truck it was black w/ red stripe). If you have any more questions let me know, I also got our camera fixed so if you need some pictures I can take some and post em up.

I will get some pics up later this week. I have to do new brakes and such on my grandfathers plow truck tonight, then my truck has to go in the garage to thaw out because it is a big ball of ice right now. Once all the ice is melted I will take a bunch of pics, hopefully they will prove useful to some people in there projects.
