Make sure your heater valve is opening all the way, my cable from the hot cold lever broke and I didn't have a heater either.  If that is not the prop check your thermostat, it may be locked up in the open position. Radiator size shouldn't matter that much. When was the last time you flushed the system. It could just be plugged up too.

If its running cool, then you wont have any heat to begin with. Make sure its at least 1/4 gauge on your temp gauge, because your thermostat could be stuck open.

Remember that only Napa and Toyota carry the correct thermostat for yota's.  All the rest are garbage and will fail early and/or leave you with no heat.

i wemt and got a new thermostat from toyota and installed it today my 4-runner now runs at the appropriate temp a little under half it does put out a little more heat but not as much as my friends the heater core is hot to the touch so i assume its working! there is one other thing my fan speed only has one setting and thats high what could be causing this problem?

If your fan only runs on high its the resistor thats in the airstream.  I have yet to find mine but I havent looked in about a year though.  You might have garbage built up in your heater core too.  Pull the lines off the heater core and flush back and forth with a hose till its only clear water coming out and Ill bet you have a better heater.

on my 79 the heater valve broke years ago,  i hook a small bungy to it and pull it over and hook to the brake booster,  nice and toasty, no bungy, slightly warm
