Transmission ID# ???

Does anybody have some info about or a FAQ to help ID a transmission by there case #`s? I know it`s out there but i cant find it , any help on this ...My # is 50511053....tcase # is 40405954 and it`s not shifting so good ?? Thanks for any help

50511053 tell's me May of 85 or 95,  and they made a lot of them that May.
