1989 4runner steering column swap.
« on: Sep 05, 2004, 06:43:51 PM »
Hello,

I own a 1989 toyota 4runner. My Question  I want to swap out the 89 steering column and install the 85 tilt wheel. Will there be any problems with this swap??

IE wiring harness.

Thanks

Chuck

There shouldnt be any issues at all.  Just plug & play.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Cool.....Finally found and bought the donor truck.  :beerchug:

Do you have any idea what the body alone minus the tail gate would weigh. I will rent the local crane. Something med in size and swap out the chassis.

As for the steering column thanks for the tip.

Hmm Id think the body would be good for probobly 800 lbs. with interior and probobly 600 without.

Interior is gone. Gutted the whole truck. except drivers seat. The interior weighed in at 160 lbs including the rug. I have a mint cap I don't want. To bad no one wants it. Otherwise I put the 4.3L back together this week end. Enjoin the tranny and T/C etc.

I swapped an 85 tilt comumn into mine and it was pretty simple.  It would be a little easier with two people though.  One to hold the column and one to align the splines on the steering shaft.  If your didn't originally have the delay wipers, you will also need the little delay box that is behind the pass side kick panel.  If I remember right, it's yellow or green??
