carbed 85 engine with efi distributor ??
« on: Dec 21, 2008, 03:10:28 PM »
it doesnt have a mechanical advance OR the vacuum so i assume its a efi distributor

i tried putting a 22R distributor in it and it ran like it was 180 out,  so  in my cold state i put the efi dist back in and sent him on his way till i can rake my brain cells together and pick your brains

what did i do wrong??

well it ran ok with the "EFI" distributor, but it had a bad hesitation,  i set the timing so it wouldnt have the hesitation but then when starting it would kick back,  he NEEDS a dist that has mechanical advance and vacuum advance, but the one i had didnt work

GLEN!!!  I got it going with the other dist.!!!  We didn't have it 180 out.  The gap was too big on the pick up  I gapped the efi one and matched it with the vacuum advance one. Started right up!!  Found the vacuum on that carb and hooked it up too   the truck runs about 150% better  haha   jus gotta reset the idle    Thanks for the help man!
