for springs i used  chevy suburban rear leafs with the overload removed.  i did a funky link setup but its typical ( and better) to use a double triangulated setup

Even with the stiff ass springs and no weight in the back it still flexed really well

Mine works awesome now.  Take your time and dial in your bumpstops and limiting straps, that makes all the difference.  I had mine built by alcan.  Theyre hinged at the frame.

The recent 14 bolt swap.

Cost, simplicity, and strength,  I've torn a link off and the spring actually helped the axle stay in place.  A coil wouldv't just folded over and costed alot more to replace.

How does this set up work in comparison to a 4 link with air shocks? I'm all about the biggest bang for my buck and I have tried to build my truck so that the week leaks are inexpensive components. Please let me know what you guys think.

You use two packs and custom pack them to your liking..... so basically you throw half of each pack away because you need to use the center bolt to help the pack together...

I've been doing some research, and im thinking of going this route. The flex is great and the build looks challenging for a newb but do able. Found this pfd: http://geckocycles.com/images/Sammy/Spidertrax%20QTE-001.pdf

I dont think that you can do 1/4E up front, havent seen it at least

I remember going to a ARCA event years ago in Johnson Valley and I saw one of the first Avalanche Engineering Snipers and they had it on all four corners. They are all coilover now but I searched and found a photo of one of the old snipers.. The one I saw seemed to work fine. I'm sure it drives as well as the full hydro steering you would have to use with it.

I have run both coils AND 1/4 elliptic springs.  The 1/4 elliptic springs work MUCH better.  Less body roll, more droop and more compression.  I attribute this to the 1/4 elliptic springs being progressive and the coils I run are not.  The only problem I have seen with 1/4 elliptic springs is the main leaf breaking.  The main leaf sees allot of stress compared to regular full leafs.  If you break a main leaf on a 1/4 elliptic pack you are getting home on your bump stops.

What springs did you use on your 1/4.  I was told F250 was the way to go ??

1/2 ton or 3/4 ?  Would that be the 4 leaf pack ?  I hope not cause I just sold a set a couple months ago  :(   Are you planning on hinging the frame side johnny joints on the axle side ?

3/4 ton if i remember right.. i got them probably 5-6 years ago  4 leafs i believe.. they have been sitting out in my parts pile for a good 2 years so i havent looked at them to recently =P they are the 56" long ones not 63" that i know for sure

With my new truck i'll probably be hinging them since i cant flat mount them to the frame and on the axle side i'll be making shackles like these
