It is snowing here and I have been putting my truck in 4WD to drive around town and there seems to be excessive binding in my front end.  It doens't want to let me turn the wheel, it only wants to go straight and i have to try harder to turn.  it also makes a noise from the front end somewhere, like a deep whining noise.  it does it more often the colder it is and I notice when I grease my drivetrain it seems to go away for a little bit then comes back soon after.

Any ideas what is wrong?

if its binding then its too dry to have in 4wd,  only use 4wd if it wont move in 2wd

um  i bet you have a locker in front dont ya?  thats why it wont turn

Its a stock truck, Im pretty sure I don't have a locker in the front.  At least I never put one in.

And I put it in 4WD cause my rear tires are almost bald and don't hook up very well in the snow.  I only have been putting it in 4WD when its still snowing.  Once the roads are starting to be cleared off I take it out.

I guess I will just deal with slippage in 2WD until I get my studded tires on.

if it is binding then something is wrong and you need to take it apart.

check your CVs.  Might have a ripped boot, and all the grease is gone, or the cv is just shot

I don't have time or money for a solid axle swap,  but next semeseter I have a brakes class, im gonna do all my brakes and grease my whole front end and ill check everything out while im in there.  But even doing my brakes will be hard cause i don't have another mode of transportation.
