my buddy Jason runs a 4.3 TBI and 700R4, into toy cases, runs 35 BFG's  and he has 5.29's i'm pretty sure.

maybe start out with 4.10's and see just how sluggish it is :dunno:

i think what glen means is start with your stock gears, which he assumed was 4.10s, and then if its too sluggish get what you think will be necessary. you should have a better idea of what you need after youve tried it with your 4.30s, if its horrible go for 4.88s or 5.29s, if its ok but still too sluggish for you go for 4.56s or 4.88s, or keep your 4.30s if it works fine.

thanks guys, i think i may go 4.88s after checking the calculator on ringpinon.com
i would just use my stock 4.30s but really cant since i'm actually going to put the 85 sfa in my garage to use...and it needs a 3rd member

thinking about putting a v6 third in the front and keep my 4cly 3rd in the rear
i know tghe ideal combo is a v6 rear and hi 4 up front...but aussie still doesnt make a v6 unit and  the hi pinon 3rd probably goes over a 100 used.. let aloat a 285 new empty houseing..

4.3 Vortec / 700R4 / 4.88's / 36" Tires, Bigarms23 was talking about.  Shift point is about the same as it was in the s-10 blazer (stock) it came out of.  Your gonna want to be 4.88 or 5.29 in the end cause your gonna want a bigger tire (37's).

I run a 89 tbi 4.3 and I have 4.10's.  But no overdrive, so I top out at about 65mph or so.  (That is a guess since I have no speedo.)  (and not that I could drive it down the highway anyway.)

it is prolly not a 700r4, the last year for that was in early 1992. It is prolly a 4l60E and look on AA site or call them

It became the 4l60 in 1990 to 1992. And i dont think you can put a manual valve body in it. You need either the computer from the car it was in or a separate trans controller

oh ok..well i believe it has the electronics and stuff...if not i can always get a howell or painless setup

so i guess the next step is finding out how to mate a np205 to a 4l60e

If you get the CPI, save yourself headaches and replace the regulator (prone to failure) and get the nut kit (for the injector to poppet valves (also prone to failure).  You most likely you will have the reworked 700R4 electronic tranny (my 92 has the 700R4).  I would personally get the stock harness and rework it, more time but less exspensive, if you do it right, the computer will control lock-up.  If your in Cali and want to keep it legal then make sure you have smog stuff and  VSS.  If your going with Howell, then get your CPU reflashed so you wont have to worry about VSS.  There are many theories on VSS, and what it does for a GM.  I would keep the VSS (NP205 ?) cause you can mod the ALDL for tire size .   Why go with the NP and not an adapter to Toy T-case ?

yea, i'll be picking up a 93 4.3 with matyching tranny..not sure if its cpi but its definatly not tbi

i was asking that i n my other thread about what xfer case to go with...toy adapter is more expensize, but making an np205 work with a 700r4 sounds like a pain in the ass

when you say replace the regulator do you mean the fuel pressure regulator?   just wondering because i have a cpi 4.3 i want to swap in my 84 toy, i just need to get my 20r/22r hybrid engine sold first!

If its a 93, It probably is a CPI motor.

Yes the fuel regulator.  If you pull the cover on the intake and its clean then you have a fuel leak.  Youll notice it in the mileage.  I dont remember the part number but you can get em a NAPA and they come with the security torx bit.  This is a common problem with the CPI, and might as well just get a new one before you tear into it.  Not a big deal, like $40 bucks.  Heres a write-up.

http://s10planet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4695

As far as VSS if your gonna run a 700R4, with a toyota case then the only VSS that is smog legal with an EO number is from  JTR/Stealth conversions, and have a two month lead time.  The Downey VSS is not legal in California.

http://www.jagsthatrun.com/V8-chapters/V8-tpi-Speed-Sensors.pdf

and Stealth conversions

http://www.jagsthatrun.com/SpeedSensors_Order.html

Its a good Idea to read JTR entire swap manual, before doing any motor conversion.

Nice then you have less to worry about.  Make sure your brakes are very good.  The auto in low/low might drive you forward even with your brakes are on.
