rear end heat

i have 5:29 gears, my ?? is if i flat tow my toy will the gears over heat
the last thing i want is to ruin my gears from towing not wheelin,
also it will be towed with 32" tires witch means things will be moving faster than normal

How many miles do you have on the gears?

no more than 5-6000and i ahve changed the oil more often than it needs so that isnt any issue
i guess what im thinkin is with 36s at 65mph wont 32s be like 100mph on the gears
i have a tire mach. and a set of 35s as well ill mount up if i have to but the 32 are in better shape

SWAMPER

Well your RPM's are going to sky rocket too...I think you should take it slow...but if you cant go with the 35's :twocents:

I ran from here to Montana & back with 31's back when I had IFS. That was driving but it wouldn't be much different.

I wouldnt be too worried about the heat on your gears.  The drivetrain ie t-case and trans, will be adding a little bit of resistance to the equation and your gears will infact be running on the "coast" side of the gears.  Id have no fears whatsoever.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Take the driveshaft loose and forget about it. I won't flat tow anything with the drive wheels on the ground. I know a guy that has a Sami behind a Motor home. Sami dropped into gear. I did the math and the motor was tuning about 14k if the tires hooked up. Needless to say sami was dead.

I might stop and check for heat on the diff. If it's under 125 I wouldn't worry about it. 125 it will be hot but you should be able to keep you had on it of a little bit.

No, there's a 12% difference between 36s and 32s, so your gears will spin at 73 mph.  You're also saying nobody has ever driving 36's at 65mph.

Your gears won't heat up nearly as much as when there is power being transfered through them.  When your truck is under it's own power, power is being transfered through the differential and the diff has to accelerate the entire vehicle's mass.  When the vehicle is being towed, the power to accelerate the vehicle is being transferred through the tow bar, not the diffs.

So...your gears will warm up slightly, but no where near the normal operating temperatures.

hay I'm trying to figure out how to hook up to my ARB bumper to tow my rig behind my motorhome any suggestions. What are you using to connect to your hitch to tow your rig?

Beef up the clevis holes and make a A-Frame for it to fit the width of those holes. Run the safety chains to the frame.

toyman2

i havent got as for to make a tow bar but i will.
if you would trust having a winch with a snatch block  you should beable to trust the bumper as well for pulling rolling weight.
like grimreaper saidbuild some mounts and build a A frame  that is worthy and go
